We didn't really eat out much when we were younger (nor do we now as a family tbh), but it would have been even more important to finish everything in that situation - it had cost so much more!
We had to stay at the table until everyone had finished whether in or out of the house. One of my parents has abandoned this - we are also trying to train them to not start eating until everyone is seated  (if we are eating a meal all together at the table, they usually get served first).
It was more eating out at functions than restaurant dining.
Holding the fork the right way up (not like a spoon), tilting the soup dish away from you, what could be eaten with the fingers...... those kind of things.
I'm probably of a different generation, too. It's, no doubt, old-fashioned now.0 -

It went with staying at table until everyone had finished & such things0 -

Aside from Bosworth field (been there) what's nice to do in the area? What would make a decent day out?
As a PS, as Viva appears to be about, can I post the what's nice to do around Woolacombe question again? I recall she mentioned Lynton/Lynmouth being nice, so assume she's aware of the area?
I live between the places you mention0 -

Yep, this is how I feel. My early twenties were AMAZING :j:beer:0 -

Ah - that makes sense. We weren't brought up to eat at functions. Luckily any functions I have been to haven't been super formal, and everyone has generally been drunk by the time of the meal (scientists, eh!)
I do remember being told which way to hold a fork (not like a shovel), and a knife (not like a pen) though. When eating alone at home I'm afraid I do shovel, and often don't bother with a knife unless necessary.0 -
Forgot to cleanse the sky box before we went away so it is full and nothing has recorded. OH is in a big grump now. A true first world problem!0

I'm keeping an open mind. I'm definitely in a better place than I ever have been, wouldn't say no to the chance to go back and do a few things differently though0 -

I was in chewy's neck of the woods last night, and we got a takeaway. There was a fair amount of food left over which was going to be chucked ... I brought home a doggy bag0 -
