It's not a chatty place .... but I'll try to slip that in without it looking like I was stalking him.

Only been to Leicester once. Had one of the best curries i've ever had south of Manchester. Bit of a cliche but I have to eat curries at regular intervals or my tongue will think it's died.:)

Zag, did you move to England because you got fed up with the state of Scottish roads? I really liked everything else about Scotland but I've never seen so many potholes and Edinburgh's roads were properly third world- it made London look organised

Dh remembers his ( uk) grandfather having two, chauffeurs and two cars. I think that a pretty impressive for the uk.

Sounds sensible to me... One for each car :)

The cuts are more obvious every time I go there.

That's how they afford free uni.

They've cut back on everything else including famously colleges, road repairs and maintenance, separate police forces, etc. The papers don't talk about it but everybody up there knows that's how they pay for things.

Re jelly's question on N Devon, I'm going to ask the resident expert to chime in on that one. To understand why I love the area, you need to know that I love hills and couldn't live somewhere flat. So there's something about chunking up a 1 in 4 hill to Lynton that was a very special part of my childhood.

Woolacombe, out of season, is one of the most gorgeous places in the world and Lymouth is lovely too. In terms of things to do I'd suggest the cliff railway. It's also worth trying to find out about the disaster, very sad.

I've not been to Lynton cinema, but if it is still running, it's something I've wanted to do. I like little independent cinemas. For that reason, if ever anyone is in Herts (other than the Herts NP) they should check out the Rex in Berkhamsted.

My car was not happy! On the plus side I discovered some excellent ales and was pleased to see sparklers on the ale taps once we got off the tourist drag, had a couple of really good pints. I've still never seen a sparkler on a tap in London.

Chewie, did you manage to try any pakora or Indian food? It's punjabi-sty;e up there and pakoras are like a staple in the west of scotland.

Speaking of ales did you ttry any Harviestoun bres like Bitter and Twisted or Schiehallion? I don't miss "heavy" unless it's the 80/- variety..

No - not a big curry fan myself. I basically subsisted entirely off fish and chips when we ate out, but most nights we had a big family meal at my aunt's house. I did try haggis though and was pleasantly surprised.

I live close to the twin villages. You're welcome to my place. :D

I haven't been to the cinema in years. It was in the Town Hall for years but then moved into the old Methodist church. It was threatened with closure (again) but seems to be plodding on. It seats about 70 people :D
I think lj is more interested in Woolacombe, though, & maybe doesn't have the use of a car?

Good, p'taking programme on BBC3. How to Win Eurovision. Looking at past winners/losers, taking the mick and trying to work out what bad decisions you'd need to make to stand out and win.
