Today I have gone through my purse and thrown out the out of date coupons and put the new ones in.
This reminded me that 2 weeks ago I actually threw away the little sticker/vouchers for the Mr T offer on the gorgeous cast iron casserole pot!
I wanted it, I really did BUT I was sensible for once as I already have a slow cooker and 2 decent stewpots.....
I took a deep breath and put the litle stickers in the bin, saving me the £29:99 it would still have cost me as wlell as the space that I would need to find in the kitchen. I also no doubt prevented a future wrist or shoulder injury that would have happened trying to lift the full pot (and any burns from spilled boiling food, not to mention wasted food that could have spilled on the floor at the same time).
As you can tell, I am still trying to convince myself that I actually did the right thing... my head says that I did but my heart says different!

(Slinks back in the room) Hi everyone, have been missing in action for a while, will you accept the return of a prodigal daughter
Hope you are all well.
Have finally equated the fact that we are getting double-glazing fitted imminently (before end of July definitely but may be in June) with the fact they will need to access the windows. Fine in most parts of the house but there are a couple of issues (larder ot doom and woodshed being most issue-some). So I need to have a major sort out of both.
Hmm, feels like I have been here before
I really don't know why I hoard food but talking to my sister she does too (not quite to the same extent but still). It doesn't help that I can't resist a bargain (AF couscous mountain anyone?!).
OH doesn't help - half the time he's trying to convince me to stop buying then, when I went to Costco yesterday he talked me into buying more toilet rolls which I wasn't planning on buying as we had nearly 80 already
Anyways, need to go and pull everything out of larder and re-order it so it fits in including the 48 cans of chickpeas I bought yesterday at Costco (to be fair we use a lot - see how it happens though!)0 -
Have loads of the white wire ties for sandwich bags so they have gone to my aunt, we never use the ties.
Today I am counting my blessings as DD has a bug and was sick every hour of the night
Blessing 1 - decluttering of the kitchen means there is room for all the bedclothes of our bed and DD's bed and there is also plenty of room on the sides for scraping off the contents of her stomach before the stuff goes in the washing machine. Yuk.
Blessing 2 - decluttering of the cupboards means that I can easily see what washing powder etc we have and what we are now running low of so DH can shop for essentials
Blessing 3 - house is being kept fairly tidy on an ongoing basis because there is less stuff, so there is much more sharing of responsibilities when we're dragged out of bed at silly o'clock because everything that needs doing on a practical level is easier to see. And we don't feel so hard done by.
Blessing 4 - it is easier to ask for help when we need it because tasks are not so dependent on each other. DH has asked family to just wash our actual duvet today - we can easily take the required laundry tablets etc. We don't feel overwhelmed by the monumental task of everything needing doing.
Blessing 5 - I am more cheerful in daily life because the house is more pleasant to be in. This means that I don't pin all my hopes on either a lovely day out at the weekend, or having a monumental clearing/cleaning effort on a weekend. Therefore I am nowhere near as frustrated by plans being changed by illness. I know I can be more spontaneous about day trips etc, even because of things like not having to clean the car out before we go!
Blessing 6 - I think I have lost weight this week, since I started doing more exercise (flylady is 'getting moving in May'). My clothes are looser. This is a huge motivator.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. lots of best wishes to those with poorly kids, and other problems. love the gratitude list WW, much better than my gerneral stomping around in bad humour feeling sorry for myself!
ds is much better, I can tell becasue he's arguing with me! so pleased to be challenged by him again, when ill he is really aquiescent, super polite and just heart-breakingly grateful for any teeny act of care or kindness (unlike his mum who tends towards grumpy in any situation).
sorting out has stalled because today I am having a rest. early evening will be spent raising ds's bed from mid to highsleeper and dealing with the general detritus that "somehow" gets behind a boy's bed.
tomorrow is one last trip with ex's things into storage and the rest of the day will be catching up on washing/cleaning/gardening (the latter I enjoy). so right now I'm reclining with the odd potter around tidying as I go, but nothing big.
book club coming on thursday and I've nearly finished the book!
spurred by WW I am profoundly grateful that I've sorted enough out that I won't be thinking up excuses not to host this, that my depression/social anxiety is controlled enough for me to not stress about the neighbours coming to my house, and to recognise that it's not perfect but it doesn't matter.

enjoy the sun if you have it
Oh yes, that was another blessing - that the weather is good enough for the 5 loads we're washing today to dry outside.
The recycling has gone into the car.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
yep sick kids = loads of washing - I got a new washing line though hurrah!
Kate, a friend came over last weekend, I opened the larder to make tea and her words were "look at all those tins! if there's a war I know where I'm coming!" I was a little embarrassed, but I do get panicky if there's not much food in, I don't know why.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Hi all
MoaningMyrtle I have also cleared the socks/ underwear and put them aside for the rag man. I am good at keeping on top of the clothes bedding etc but the little stuff is often over looked. Thanks for the prompt:T:T:T
lobbyludd- no shame in being well stocked with the foods you use. It's the stuff that you would never use from pre-war you need to declutter:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I have a stock of pasta, rice, tinned beans tomatoes and pulses etc as well as a good array of herbs and spices that I can fling together with meat/ chicken etc for quick, nutritious meals.:D:D:D
Task this weekend is to list all the food I have in my freezers and plan meals around what I have. There are curries, spag bol, chilli, stews etc in there too. :j:j
I am aiming to have a long list of meals that we can transfer onto my weekly planner and just buy the bits to add to what I have.:money:
There must be enough for at least 2 months of evening meals:eek::eek::eek:
I will report back and let you know how it goes
xxxStart by doing what's necessary, then do what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible:j
Christmas is not a time but a state of mind :xmassmile
Trying.....Very trying- as my DH would say

Hello again everyone
I do read and catch up with the thread on a regular basis but I don't think I can keep up with posting too often so I think I will just try and put down my lightbulb moments and hope it helps someone.
Always supporting everyone even though its from the side lines :j
Chipping away bit by bit at the stuff in the garage, I really have to force myself to do it as its been there so long, so its full of difficult decisions
Emptying a carrirer bag of 'spare' socks and undies. I do remember putting them in there when I wanted to make space in my undies drawer and thought I would keep as spares as I got rid of current stuff.
Hmmm well I didn't use the spares did I?? I bought new undies and socks when needed doh. :rotfl:
So 13 pairs of worn socks to rag bag and 3 briefs to bin. 3 pairs of socks I can't decide upon to the wash basket, then I can wear them under my office trousers and remind myself why I stopped wearing them, if that makes sense lol!
3 bras, still undecided as they are really pretty but don't fit me anymoreand 3 black thongs which are unworn as I don't wear them anymore
hehe
Keep up the good work everyone :beer:0 -
Oh one more thing to add. I realised I wasn't putting my bags for charity shop into the car until I was actually going to take them which meant they cluttered up the hall or living room a bit. My reasons for not doing this? Erm in case the car got stolen overnight!!! You could not make it up could you?!!
Have stopped doing this now and its in the car ready for any opportunity to drop off.0
