i just posted this (below) on the declutter thread and we have had a lot of success getting shut of stuff doing this, it saves effort with larger items!
we are also fairly rural and Facebook selling seems quiet here.
we have had a lot of success with freegle, if you have a larger item and you just want rid of it, you could advertise it on there,
i know you don't get cash for it but if its going to be difficult to cart to the tip, its an easy option to just get someone to take it away for you0 -
Yes, freegle is a good way to get rid of clutter. However, the problem (in our case) is US.
We still find it hard to let go. You know, "that inch square of yellowy-grey fabric might go in a quilt someday..." (and I've never made a quilt in my life, so far).
OH is similar. He keeps boxes full of screws etc because they're an unusual size and he might need them (but hasn't needed them for at least the last 10 years). He's paying for space to store his excess 'workshop' stuff and is now trying to see how he can confine it all to the cellar, conservatory, shed and garage . . . Well, I suppose he does allow me the rest of the house. Sort of.0 -
I have about 20 yards of fabric ready to go out of the house tomorrow plus another two medium sized baskets. I have promised to give DS1 all my duplicate tools - he and his gf have just put the down payment on a house that will be ready in October. He can have things like the sledgehammer as well - too heavy for me and not planning to knock any walls down. Some coloured embroidery fabric to go to the charity shop - they have a pile of cross stitch mags and I thought they could get sales off the two.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0

Good morning all
I hope there is room for one more (I am afraid for now I come complete with baggage and hoard)
Many of the boards I don't feel safe on, but I think that is me,in part. However, I do sometimes think there is less compassion elsewhere.
I won't be posting too often to start and excuse me in advance if I don't seem supportive to others, in my heart I feel for us all. But starting a declutter, well thinking about it, feels like a process of grief to me, and I am only on post 200 of this part three, and so I am only starting to get 'to know' you
Going to start to read this from where I am and the new posts from today. I will give more personal information as it becomes more relevant
But for now I leave you with, there is just hubby and I in the house along with 6 dogs, no that is not a mistype. Daughter son and "adopted" son all left homeEmergency fund £10,000

Well today I went to SW and decluttered another 2lb
problem with this is I need to tackle the wardrobe on a regular basis (and other clothes storage)
But where do I start I have a small kitchen, hall stairs and landing, tumble dryer for now in hall. I have a very large lounge diner, three bedrooms a loo and bathroom
They all need to be tackled two bedrooms are used as a dumping ground the kitchen is a mess (mind you I did do the larder on Sunday)
but I honestly dont know where to start
I would like to do our bedroom, but only we see it, however, I would like a sanctury.
IF I start with hall stairs landing then loo and bathroom - those areas will be clean and tidy and make me feel better. then obviously the lounge diner
I know things are bad as I stopped my adopted son (in all but paperwork) from visiting yesterday by saying I had a migraine
I have over the years made several false starts - I need to think of them more of practice runs
But I am genuinely totally overwhelmed and cant start.Emergency fund £10,000

I have the same problem. Ideally I would like my living room to be the least embarrassing first! Having said that, I have a downstairs bathroom and you have to go through the living room, dining room and kitchen to get to the bathroom.
If anyone visits me then they don't normally need to go upstairs but would love to get downstairs looking more respectable.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

Have you thought about doing the KonMari method of decluttering (there is a thread on here) where you start with your clothes and work up/out from there?Must use my stash up!0
