Made the best of a rainy day yesterday & cleared out more of the 'Room of Doom' aka small spare bedroom. Loads of paperwork either binned or filed properly. I can now see the surface of my desk!
I now need to give it a good clean as the cat has a habit of sprawling across the desk in front of me to get my attention so there's fluff & bits everywhere too!! Still it is nice to walk in there now & see some semblance of order. Raining again so may get to finish it properlySmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Well done on the spare room, silvasava.
Cats are so funny with computers, aren't they? Kid Bruv runs a business online and spends a lot of time on his pooter and the cats get so jealous of it. One of them gave herself a fright by walking across the keyboard and waking up a dormant pooter; we think she must have stood on CTRL-ALT-DELETE.:rotfl:
I would have liked to do a couple of hours on my allotment today but it has been raining for 24+ hours here. Pretty steady, heavy rain and looks like it has set in for the duration.
Sooo, I am reduced to doing chores - wah! Have had the stored h.g spuds out of their sack in the shed, de-shooted them and co-incidentally dropped my eye on the brackets for a shelf which I was meaning to freecycle. Won't do that immediately due to other commitments meaning I can't be around for the handover, but will do it before Xmas, promise ya.
In the grand scheme of things, one pine shelf and its brackets isn't exactly big clutter, but my shed here at the flats is 3 ft wide x 5 ft 9 "long, so any item in there which isn't needed on the journey is better out of here.
Y'know, sometimes I envy those who have humungous amounts of decluttering to report, like spare furniture or carloads of kipple. It must be so satisfying to get rid of so much. I don't have that kind of scale of clutter. If I did, I wouldn't be able to get into my home. Heck, nothing wider than 75 cm can get into this flat unless it is dismantleable (that may not be a proper word, btw).
But don't you often find it is the little stuff, the kind you can carry in a bag, which is the really time-consuming and fiddly stuff? A modest box of Misc can really slow down a life when you have to poke through it looking for the good stuff among the also-rans and the never-shouldas.
Yesterday I got lucky at a chazzer and got a great baking tin which means that an unsatisfactory stand-in can go back whence it came (Mum's kitchen, I checked and she does want it back). This item just about did the job but not very well and was oversized for the pan box under the cooker and sent its fellow inmates into sliding episodes, and the new one is much better, and was on my wants list.
Will continue decluttering the fridge today, amazing how much easier it is to see the options when there is less in there.......just like everything in life, I guess.
Keep up the good works, lovely peeps. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I did the playroom on Thursday- it took me about 6 hours and resulted in an entire boot load to the chazzer, and a load of baby toys sold on local selling page. I also decluttered my make up and handed a load down to (very grateful) Teenage Daughter. Today Ive been trying (and failing) to buy a jam/sugar thermometer to make fudge. I had a fit of cleaning frenzy yesterday and cleaned the kitchen to the extent of cleaning the (minging) cooker hood and skirtings etc. We have The Men coming tomorrow to do our hallway floor (Karndean pretend Parquet) so Himself has been painting skirtings all weekend and all the shoes out of hall have been hoofed into my lovely tidy playroom. gahhhhhhHave nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.

:j I'm rich, I'm rich!
Have been cleaning and decluttering in my bedroom and delved into one of my jackets for hankies which should be laundered, found something papery and it turned out to be money. If this is going to happen regularly, perhaps I can get some motivation for tidying up.
Have been tearing the place apart looking for something else of value, not finding it, but have re-acquainted myself with some of my belongings in the process. Which has given me the incentive to turf some clothes up towards to the top of the drawers so they too can be among the chosen ones and get out and about.
Excellent work on that playroom, by the way, sounds as if you've really made a difference there and having the hall floor done will be brilliant, even if the intermediate stage is a bit of a PITA.
Still have no idea where the Item has got to, so I suppose I should instigate a flat-wide search, but am beginning to lose my mojo, so will concentrate on putting the disarrayed items back where they belong. The Item will turn up someday, probably when I have stopped looking for it.It's just shy and is hiding from me, that's all.

Idris - I feel your pain.
My only spare room is what should be a dining room but is a temporary bedroom:eek: for returning Uni kid. It has currently been taken over by new stuff for official bedroom which is being replastered. This has been ongoing since September.
Ah well when the plastering, painting, carpeting, furniture building etc is complete then I should have my space back again. Oh what to do with it!
On a more positive note I have decluttered the drawers of doom in the front room. You know the ones. Pens, hairbrushes, chargers. 8 pairs of 3D glasses - no idea why as there are only 6 of us and I can't see in 3D. The drawers look good though. Perhaps I should glue them shut then I know they will stay that way.:rotfl:De cluttering Konvert.Getting there

Just a thought, as I know one of the difficulties for many of us is finding good homes for things we don't use any more.
Bromley women's refuge collects unwanted toiletries and make up and turns them into Christmas gifts for women and teenage girls at the refuge.
More info can be found on the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ShoeboxGiving (or I can post more details if people are interested)
So if you don't know anyone who would like it, that might be a good destination.
There are also of course the shoebox appeals for children that many places run, might be a home for some unwanted toys.0 -
Quite proud of myself; the kipple that went into the garage yesterday is sorted! There's a big box of rubbish in the car to go to the Tip tomorrow morning & a big box of second-string-but-decent vintage clothing going to another trader who does have storage space for it & two clothing stalls to kit out. I took a bag of non-working clocks & watches down to the watch mender down on the market, who can use them for spares. The most any of them cost me was 50p; he's got a genuine use for them and I'm a bit closer to seeing my "workshop" table surface.
Currently busy turning an old silk sari into a glamorous outfit for DD2 to dance in in two weeks time, so matters have ground to a halt for the rest of the day, but I'm happy to report that both the garage and my storage shed are a bit less full-to-bursting after yesterday's market; I was able to replace my stock & infrastructure so I can just lift it out & go next week. Two more to go, and the house may be quite habitable by Christmas...Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
:j I found The Item. Just had a LBM about where I put it, and there is was - hooray, I'd've been ratty about that for days. It shouldn't be possible to lose things in a place this small, but if you're talented that way, I guess you can lose things anywhere.
I am now chilled and have even done (most of) the dishes and can see (most of) the floor. Shame about the sofa, tho.......:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Oh my goodness. We have finally taken the vast box of bottles to the bank for recycling. It lived in the car for the past fortnight & I am now no longer reminded of our gluttony every time that we turn a corner or go round a roundabout...
We also put the spare duvets into bags and hoovered the air out, so they look tidier in the blanket box (OCD, here I come) and threw away some old dog bedding. Then we decluttered a box of Ferrero Roche (sp?) & if my clothes are too tight next week, I will have only myself to blame. I then spent a happy hour rearranging books.
This de cluttering lark is helping my somewhat slovenly nature too. I'm keeping what is left, way tidier (& better dusted) than before and that's making me happy too.

DS was working "up North" last week and spent three nights in a nice, tidy hotel room.
I am thrilled to report that yesterday he filled three black bags with rubbish from his floor. :j:j:j
I shall nip in there with the hoover today while I have the chanceYes, of course he should do that himself, but he gets home too late at night to start hoovering then.
