Horsetails are a botanical wonder. Unchanged since the time of the dinosaurs, because it's a winning design; roots are 6 feet deep. Veyr hard to eradicate, but you can slow it down and mightily discourage it.
I've seen it on my allotment, in Tuscany, on the saddle of a Sloevenian mountain; dadblasted stuff gets everywhere.
Have decluttered some more wood treatment jollop onto the shed, transplanted some stuff from pots, discarded a cracked one and washed the 6 sound ones and put away.
I have an intention of doing a sewing project which belongs at Mum's and which if I can get it done this week, should be able to go to her's when they swing by mine on Saturday. It's a good incentive to get cracking with it, isn't it?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I know we've discussed this on here before, but what is best to deter moths from the wardrobe and drawers? I think I am going to need to be a bit more proactive about these.(Not that it is much of a problem, just one or two items damaged).
Get everything out, thoroughly clean the wardrobe/drawers and clean the clothes in there - you need to get rid of the eggs.
Only clean, dry clothes to be stored. Even if it's only been worn once, if it's going to be stored for any length of time, then it needs to be cleaned and thoroughly dried before going into storage.
Moths dislike disruption, daylight and fresh air. Don't pack the area tightly, rotate the clothes - try not to have dead spaces where clothes are left for weeks/months/years at a time and where the moths can do their damage undisturbed.
If you do have to store clothes for long lengths of time, think about vacuum storage - again making sure the clothes are cleaned and dry, the storage bags are clean and free from dust and eggs and the bags will be kept where it's possible to visually check for damage. Don't just put them in the loft and forget about them for yonks. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
afternoon all,
gq, i know what you mean, before i moved here, i lived in another block of flats but that was a 1 bed, had this great big guy built like brick sh*t house lol upstairs opposite me, soft as anything but if i didnt know him would have been one of them people id rather not run into in a dark alley, but more often than not my front door would be open when i was awake for my cats as there was a communal stairway, and he went out or came in and hed always shout hi through as he was opening his door, if i said i had bacon sarnies on the go he would pop in lol.
ex fiance living below me, and friend living opposite him, we actually all got on witch was strange, then in the little block next to us i only knew 2 of them, well knew one she was like a second mum to me and she would let me know how the lady above her was doing, and id always say hi when i seen her. unfortunately the friend downstairs done a swap with someone, and after that we had nothing but problems, and the friend apologised as she didnt actually realise what this new person was like on the outside she didnt seem bad until she got all the gossip from her new neighbours.
she would keep s opposite me awake half the night closing and opening doors and windows, cupboard doors, music, found out later she had paranoid schitsophrenia, and it was quite a bit to do with that, the whole block went to mediation set up through the council, only seemed to resolve some issues, for a short time. and she was back the way she originaly was, she didnt realise sh was doing half the stuff, or so w said.
and i lost count of how many times i asked her not to bother me if i front door is closed, that usually means im asleep, as at that time, i didnt sleep very much at all, i would doze in my recliner for half n hour here and there, but at night i would usually want some peace and quiet and around 1 am i would normally shut my front door, more often than not i would have my radio on and if i had it a little louder than i realised s would open his door gimmie and shout and id say sorry and turn it down, but it wasnt very often that happened, only when my depression played up really bad, but if my door was closed he wouldnt hear it or so s said he didnt hear it, cos i would aplogosie and say i was in a different room and didnt realise it was up like that until i went into the room with the tv, (listen to the radio through sky) and he would usually say he hadnt heard it if he had he would have said something.
but the annoying bit would be 2,3,4 am and w would be coming up to knock on my door as she either wanted fags and didnt have money to go get any, or she had gone and bought tobacco cos it was cheaper but couldnt roll her own, so she would knock on my door and ask me to roll it for her, and i was too polite to say pi55 off, i would usually spend half an hour rolling for her, while having a cuppa and then i thought she would leave, but rarely did.
altho i have the same problem when i visit people i normally stay longer than i mean to cos if im honest im not sure about when i should leave.
we had all tried saying something to her but it was like she didnt understand or would forget what we had said, even with the mediation, that seemed to help for a while, but then things went back to normal not long after they stopped contacting us to see how things were going. and if im honest at that point we started wondering if she was playing around and doing things on purpose.
altho sometimes i would rather put up with w than i do a and c downstairs now. and that was nearly 9 years ago. g my ex fiance died by his own hand, before i moved, and s had a brain tumour and died, i had visited him once, still dropped him off a card for his brithday when i went down and a bottle of whiskey for christmas, and he was saying about these headaches he was getting, and i suggest he go drs but he had and all they told him was to take paracetamol, so i told him if he was as worried as he was making out go up the hospital, i would, and tell them your drs wont listen to you, maybe if you mention the surgery they will take you seriously, there were 3 similar stories that i heard 2 of them personally close ish, where they told patients not to worry and it ended up being some form of cancer that was too late to treat by the time they realised, or in s case, they didnt even realise to get any treatment started. next thing i heard was that he was gone. and even after all this time i occasioannly forget and think about popping up the hill to see him when im in that area.
gotta say i never liked those drs, they had fobbed me off for 9 years about my hormones and if they had done one simple test i might have been able to have been treated sooner and be able to have kids.
well hubbys doing the shopping on his way home, couldnt sleep again last night, but managed to grout my trolley in the kitchen, the workers left some tiles behind and i decided to tie the trolley in with the rest of the kitchen so it now has a balc and cream tiled top, witch should be from experience so much easier to just wipe over, hubby makes the tea most of the time, and i dont know how but he makes such a mess, and as usual muggins here is the one that has to clean it, so anything that makes it easier is fine by me lol. done the tiling yesterday afternoon and grouted it about 3 am. hopefully that should be dry by now and i can go push it back in its corner before hubby gets in with the shopping. if i finish soon enough will give the kitchen a quick wipe over before he gets back rather than afterwards.
should probably get the hoover out as well, little poppy socks (cat) decided to bring a bird home this morning and i just relaised there are feathers all over the hall floor. hate gifts off the cats, hate them even more when the are alive and scampering all over the place trying to get away form us and the cat.
darling old whiskey the one day brought something home almost as big as himself the one day. we came in after being out, and all i could hear under the table was this snarling and wondered what the hell it was all about. next thing whiskey runs past me dong that grumbling thing he likes to do, and i thought what the hell is that, managed to corner him on the stairs, and coax the rabbit out of his mouth with a piece of packed ham. good job our vets take in wild animals if they are found and they decide what to do with them or contact the right people for us for them to pick them up and look after them.0 -
Tried not to nag OH again about sorting his carp wardrobe this weekend. Got to Sunday evening, his ex came to pick up their son, she nagged him about it instead as she thinks there might be a few of her clothes in there still.... As much as it bugs me, I thankfully found that quite amusing.Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Jan 2012: £16,000+ [STRIKE] Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Sep 2013: £13,023 [/STRIKE]

Still on a mission at Triker towers. Decluttered a significant amount of stuff at the car boot. Including two really heavy boxes of motorbike magazines, must have been over 200 plus of them. A guy asked how much, so I said take as many as you like for a donation, so he took the lot and donated a fiver. Not sure who was happier, me or him.:D
Brought some back *ahem* a few bits and pieces that were bargains... honest  and also great for reselling.
Started on some of the household stuff. We can now get into the box room which was stuffed.
I'm going with the Feng Sui ethos that clutter causes stagnant and blocked energy. I need flow and energy that comes with a clutter free home.
Anyway, more stuff out tomorrow, more stuff listed on ebay and I don't quite feel so overwhelmed.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

I actually do have something to report today! Plans to clean my room escalated as I found some unpleasant things. The spare mattress is going in the garden, so is the carpet from under my bed. I have vacuumed, washed the floor and mould treated where needed. I felt utterly exhausted but happy - and it smells better in my room
A bag has gone to the local CS, finally....

:T Well done, Happygreen. Not brilliant that you had this problem, but at least you found it and have sorted it out.
I'm enjoying a lazy day (having part of my annual leave) and have decided to turf out two of my largest pans; a stainless steel copper-bottomed frying pan, and a large pot with a glass lid.
Nothing wrong with either of them and I expect Hoxfam won't have any problems selling them.
The frying pan I have had for years and seldom use. Haven't lost out on much money as it was only 50p from a bootsale years ago. I have long since known that I barely used it, sometimes not even once a year, but had hestitated to get rid.
My reasoning was that it stood at the bottom of a pile of pans I do use, therefore it wasn't going to free up any space by going. When you live in a small home, the enticement of freeing up space is considerable, but I wasn't going to get that incentive. So it stayed, because it wasn't technically in the way and it wasn't eating anything (my family's catchphrase for something which isn't costing you anything to keep).
But I realised that it was eating something - me. It was annoying me every time I opened that cupboard and when I went to use it last week, I discovered why I use the small heavy-duty omelette pan all the time; it's the perfect size for my singleton household and it doesn't stick.
Also going out is a glass lidded cooking pot, stainless steel, two handled, which I bought 2nd hand about 2 years ago. I bought it as a compliment to the heavy duty stainless steel pot which I use all the time. That pot was 50p from a bootsale, I've owned it over a decade and use it lots, but I was always a bit annoyed that it didn't have a lid. And the one which I bought does.
But I discovered that the lidless pan had a better base for heat transfer and its taller sides meant I was less likely to slop my pasta sauce or chili con carne onto the cooker, so I favoured that. And, come to think of it, I can use an enamel plate as a makeshift lid for that pot, and have done a very few times when I've needed a lid on the lidless pot. So, not having one is a non-problem, IYSWIM. And in case you'r wondering, the lid from the pot which is leaving today doesn't fit the pot which is staying, so that's not a workaround.
I'm not gaining much space, as the pot also stood in the stack with the frying pan at the base, but the lid had to be stored elsewhere in the same cupboard and was always falling over and being a nuisance.
My batterie de cuisine is now; one big steel pot with no lid, one big steel saucepan with a lid, one small steel pan with lid, stainless steel colander, an omelette pan, and the 3 tier steel steamer pan set which has been in daily use for a quarter of a century and very seldom even makes it into the cupboard.
Righty, going to finish my tea and then head out with the donations. Pans will be liberated from useless incarceration Chez GQ, to be purchased by people who need them, Hoxfam will get some money to Do Good Things, and the taxman will have to cought up an extra 25% as I'm on Gift Aid.Happy thoughts. And I shall never have to catch that dadblasted glass pot lid when it starts to fall ever ever again!
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

well ive sorta had a nice afternoon,
dropped hubby off at work for a training course update thing, then went to dentist, by the tme i was finished there i got petrol for my trip on thursday, and cos hubby thought there would be a good chance they would be finishing early, i went round to pick him up, for me to have ended up just sitting there for nearly an hour cos they were actually late finishing up. then went round the shop and helped them get rid of some bread that i took up the lake to feed the swans/ducks/geese with then sat there and had an ice cream while i watched the swans, and felt pretty relaxed for a change, and just as we were about to leave a mother coot i think it was, came out of the rushes with 2 babies. typical i didnt have my camera with me, but at least i had my phone. so i managed to get a couple of pictures of them, this is my favourite one :

Kitchen ceiling painted.. needs another going over to make it all uniform but it looks fabulous.
Builder dude came to measure up for quote giving for the fireplace in the back room
roof work underway.
I need to sort a repair on my Washing machine.. and...
I've manage to get beastlings to take 4 binbags to chazzer!! 4 down.. 100 more to go!! But it is a start
I am 2 children down at the weekend, including the messy one! My 9 year old makes more mess than all 10 of the rest of us, including the 3 babies!! So I aim to sift through a LOT of stuff, just need OH to man up and deal with the 3 girlies.
Hopefully Crackenstein will have had his stitches out by then and I can get the dog crate back to my mothers and the cabinet to my sister and make some floor space and clean the front room again, it is rather swamp-like in there.. I am in 2 minds whether to put the 2 seater sofa in the back room to create more playing space for the children as all the toddler toys are in there now. I have a pile of pics to go up too.. I might make that a weekend priority too! .. I have about 40 pics I want on the wall in the hallway I thought but now I am thinking the landing, it might look like a wall in Hogwarts though with no visible wall between the pics
I aim to get some more stuff to chazzer tomorrow and decide on tiles for the fireplace.. or rather price up what we need... must find tape measure!!
