:D I'm astonished at the longevity of those 1980s bands. And have to hide a smile when I see Young People in G & R tee shirts. With the exact same design as they had back when I was a yoof.

I was at the first ever G &R appeareance in the UK (Donington - people died that year) and have been panicky in crowds ever since.

I used to be skinny, too. Mind you, I'm turning 50 later this year, so I'm allowed to be a bit broad in the beam, lol.

Loves me a bit of hair metal! I was totally born at the wrong time. I would have been a shameless groupie for them all :o I am also the biggest Whitesnake, Journey, Queen, Iron Maiden fan you will meet :o Must admit to pulling a scathing look at the yoof younger than me wearing mass produced band shirts from H&M and the like...

Don't blame you, I was a bit wee to be at Donington at that point but I know of it well. Come to think of it, there's another tee I can't chuck. My customized, ripped, tied, oh-so-sexy GnR shirt.. Sigh.

I saw them (Axl and the payroll ;) )for the first time at Donington (well, Download..) in 2006 - I spent the entire weekend without suncream and got hideously burnt. As in, should've gone to hospital, burnt. Blisters like Rice Krispies over 90% of my body and swollen to twice my size, only form of hydration - beer. Copious amounts. Was I missing my fav ginger? Was I hell! Pushed to the front for the opening WTTJ, and then promptly passed out and fell/got crushed over the barrier during Live and Let Die (oh the irony..:D). Got carted off the the St Johns Ambulance tent, protesting in manner most foul :rotfl:

Hello Morganarla .. Ornaments... it is difficult, isn't it?
Some years ago I bit the bullet and asked people not to give me any more ornaments.
I made comments like 'I've got enough ornaments, and nowhere to put them'. Carp ornaments went.

Those that are left are precious, either belonged to my late parents or were given by them. Or they have a practical use, like the lidded terracotta pot that holds the radiator and window keys.
I did crack last summer when I bought two 3 inch Kissing Hippies salt and pepper pots :o but apart from that I've had no ornaments across the threshold in years.

My son loves 80s bands, born 15 years too late, alas. He is a shred guitarist, but does conventional stuff as well. There are bands we both really like, Manics and Radiohead primarily, but lots of others too, like GnR. He was stand in bassist for the North East Bon Jovi tribute band Bon Jordi one time...

I was playing a bit of Bryan Adams - Summer of 69 on the piano the other day, fairly roughly and singing along. Finished the first verse and just stopped - then heard my neighbour (older, 40's male) start singing the bridge between each verse and whooping through the dividing wall. Couldn't stop laughing!

I want to try to say to Mum to stop buying me 'stuff', but she's a somewhat fragile individual (severe mental health issues), and it just isn't worth it/ I just have to learn to 'rotate' and use the stuff, I guess.

Had to buy some new stuff and even the few days between buying/using new and chucking out the old made the house deteriorate. We aren't talking big stuff, we are talking things like toothbrushes and other bits and bobs. We have gifts to give hanging around and have received some gifts too. The house isn't bad but it isn't good either and it is not a pleasant way to start the week.

I have been having a lot of vivid dreams this month and sleeping a lot. I guess this is healing in the long term? Our local surgery has got a new GP and she seems very keen to have a proper discussion about my medication and get a plan with it going forward. I would like to lose weight and the medication I am on is not good for that.

I know my weight issues are linked to my hoarding issues. I don't understand though how I can successfully change the hoarding habits but the weight side of things gets worse in comparison. Surely both should be better?

I am nervous about this week.

    Love the Bryan Adams story!

Can you get a storage box and put most of the ornaments wrapped away in there and just get a couple out at a time - tell your Mum you like to be able to see them ;)
    Must use my stash up!

Its good that your neighbour likes the same music as you Morgan :rotfl:

Cleared all the carp from the bathroom shelf last night and waded through a pile of stuff in the bedroom till I got to the wardrobe :j Have a neater pile ready to be sorted and a few things ready to re-home. DD sent back a Lloyd loom box that she borrowed so going to re- organise the hall and put the boots in it so its neat, may well throw a few pairs away in the process. trying fleabay again with about 15 items so hopefully they will be out of the door in a few days (insert smiley with fingers crossed :D ) Its more about creating space now than money.

Right off to motivate myself, have a great day all xx

  • Cleared out heaps of magazines to take them to work. Last time, someone took the lot between me putting them on the table at 8.55 and most people's morning coffee break but this time, it has been more civilised.

Welcome to all the new posters. It sounds like there have been some notable successes.

Have had a lot of ins recently via postal deliveries, books and disability aids, plus a remote-controlled car for DGS and a radio for me, to review from Am@zon.
TG that the council gave us a massive wheely bin for recycling. The old me would have wanted to have held on to lots of 'useful' cardboard boxes, as seen by the dozen in 'hoarder' programmes.
For all his faults, DS is sterner stuff and would have sneaked them into the bins, I know.

I have managed to clear the fold up table and that can go away in a minute.

I bought a new waterproof bag for work the other day so I have cleared out the old bag. It is in the wash and then it will go. It is still in usable condition but there is no point in keeping it.

Toothbrushes have been replaced so old ones have been binned. 1 tube of sticky stuff that isn't quite glue will be binned - it has been floating around. A couple of books that I have read have been put aside for a book hamper gift (family recipient won't mind in the least that they are second hand - like me, would rather have quantity of quality reading material).

Have shredded a pile of paperwork relating to a course I have been on recently.

I weighed myself today and am just under a milestone amount (still too heavy but it is at least going down). Yesterday, because I could find the info quickly, I managed to book blooddoning, dentist and doctor appointments all within 10 minutes (booking time; not 3 appointments in 10 mins!) The doctor is new to the area and is very keen to review my medication to see about cutting down or changing brands to try and help the weight loss. I was impressed with her over the phone so it will be good to see her in person.

    hello new people !!
    well done every-one :)

I got rid of a lot of minor but irritating stuff over the weekend - can't remember all of it - but things like the mirror I broke trying to cut it to size (no, self, I can't find a use for a smaller mirror OR glue it back together and "hide" the seam), almost finished toothpaste tubes for the children after they discontinued the only formula they would use (they have transitioned to the new one now so no need to keep).

house looked lovely, then I had 11 preteens for a party and have been too tired since to keep on top of it. but it should be easier to get it looking nice together because I was quite ruthless with numerous things I was getting around to making decisions on.

small moan. Some lovely family came to help with the party, and did loads, and I feel really churlish saying this but I am so glad they are not helping anymore, as much of their helping generated work for me (e.g. they decided to sort out something in the garden whilst I was busy, and without asking if/how I wanted it done, and despite being keen gardeners themselves in the process have crushed some of my plants, trod in cat poo and then cleaned it in a way that I found unhygienic and I'm really not a great hygiene fiend - but I know they would have done it in a different way in their own house) and I now have to undo and redo what they did.

I can't say this to anyone else, so I'm saying it here - just because I am not minimalist and you don't understand my system, doesn't mean you can blunder about doing anything that you decide should be done. I had to chuck them out of the kitchen at one point - I had served breakfast, was making treats for the party which was within hours of starting and cooking a roast dinner. They offered to help so I gave them a task which needed doing, which they promptly ignored and decided to empty the dishwasher. A task which could definitely wait, cutting me off from the cooker as they wandered around and taking up all work surfaces because they didn't know where anything went because I don't store things where they would.

I've only just got the kitchen back to a situation where I know where the cutlery is after another visiting family member helpfully re-organised it to their system (leaving all the sharp knives well within reach of dd, the plastic cookware melting next to the side of the cooker that gets really hot and the stainless steel implements beyond my reach).

their hearts are in the right place, they would be devastated if they thought they weren't being helpful and I love seeing them, but gosh.

actually that was a big moan - but it's done now - does anyone else find well-meaning, uber-organised folks doing things to "help" that actually hinder?
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)
