Today I am in the dining room. I have ordered a new oak sideboard as my last one has been resigned to the garage as it has started to fall apart. it was a flat-pack waste of money...saying that it has been useful for the last ten years. The new sideboard was reduced online but still expensive. This is a once in a lifetime purchase for me and I will be able to comfortably store everything I need.
.
Why are you keeping it if it's falling apart? I probably would but then I would know I shouldn't if you know what I mean!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
Hi there
I wrote garage and I should have said farm shed...we are on a farm and it is now storing small farm implements seeds etc that were previously just lying around. So I feel as though I have made progress there too.

Not made much headway on this but he isn't visiting this week. Some of the stuff in the living room does belong to him and I've told him to have a look at it next time he comes, which will help.

I do have a cleaner who comes in 2 hours a week, and she is brilliant, but two hours a week just isn't enough at the moment and finances are too tight for any more hours. Another friend comes in when she can, so I am not totally alone, but I am very frustrated. Also it brings home to me my physical limitations, which normally I manage to get round/ignore.
Having said that, my cleaner is here at the moment and in just one hour has managed to move/shift/tidy/pack enough stuff that I have left out, so that the place looks like home again...
for the moment... :-)I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
hi LazyDaisy
Have you tried contacting any of the Disabled charities or social services. Do you have a social worker that you could speak to?

Evening all...well I got plenty done today but I am slightly deflated and realise there is still a long way to go before I get my house in order.
I have sold something on ebay and I cannot find itI thought I knew where I put it but I was wrong. So I feel a bit down about it but I just will have to search until I find it. Lessons being learnt today I can tell you.
Take care all.0 -
Slinks back in.
I've not managed much over the last few weeks. I struggled with motivation for a while, just wanting to sleep all the time, until I landed in hospital on IV antibiotics. Turns out I've got gall stones. At least I know I wasn't just being lazy.
So, I've changed my plan (again). I'll be having surgery sometime in the next month or so, so I need to get the place as easy to move around as possible. A little bit a day should do it - since I'd already done the big stuff when I first found this thread.
I have made a couple of tiny bits of progress though. I took some stuff to the CS today, I've got rid of nine books so far and only bought two (real ones, a few more ebooks but they don't count!), but I'll be buying one tomorrow for my book club.
I've bought a couple of items of clothes (due to weight loss) but got rid of about seven.
I have bought three pairs of boots though.
I had a minor victory, my TV remote was broken, half the buttons didn't work, so I bought a new one - and I threw the old one away! I did look at it with bin bag in hand and think 'but what if the new one breaks', and had to say firmly to myself 'if the new one breaks, what good will another broken one be'.
So I think I'm back on track now, albeit at a slower rate.
I've also been 'decluttering' the books I haven't read yet - at last count a few years ago they were well into three figures. I'm not necessarily going to get rid of them, but I'm making sure I read more than I buy.
I hope everyone else is doing well, I've not had chance to go back through the thread.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Hi Ames
You are making progress. I find it difficult to go into a charity shop and not buy anything. I am avoiding them as much as possible and putting clothing etc into the large collection bins available.
I nearly called at a few today and I told myself I have too much stuff and what is the point of buying more. I found it very difficult. Books are the hardest thing to let go aren't they?0 -
Sorry to hear about the galls tones Ames but the surgery isnt too bad - I had it done years ago. Just do as they tell you after the op - no lifting at all! Glad you are still getting sorted, sounds like you are doing really well.
Not got much done this week, not felt like doing anything to be honest. Hubby has slept the week away so have just pottered about. One parcel gone though and another ready to post. Havent bought anything at all mainly because I havent been out the door :rotfl: Intend to do more Monday onwards.

I did have a sneaky look around the CS when I took the books in. I was very tempted by a jewellery holder, and could justify it on the grounds that my jewellery is currently just in several piles on my chest of drawers. But I told myself that that's the sort of thing to buy when I've moved and know what colour schemes and furniture I'll have.
I saw something else I really wanted too - but you know what? I can't even remember what it was now.
I didn't trust myself to go near ghe books though!
Sweetpea, I'm not finding getting rid of books too difficult at the mo, because I'm just culling ones I didn't enjoy, thrillers that there's no point reading a second time because you already know whodunit, and the books I bought multiple copies of because I forgot I already had it...
There'll be a point soon when I'll not get rid of any more, but to have enough room for them all I'll be ruthless with getting rid of other stuff.
Ginny, thanks for the reassurance about the op! When I was in the other week there were two women who'd had the same one - one was doing well and starting to be up and about after a couple of days, but the other had come back in with complications, which I'd rather not have seen!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
