I've decided to have a go at creating a 40 bags in 40 days challenge page on Facebook for us (Lent starts tomorrow!) but I can't set up a group without people. :o

If anybody's interested in taking part can you PM with with your Facebook login please?

Decluttering has taken a backseat as we have yet another leak in the roof - that's 3 at the moment. Hoping Lent will give me the kick I need though!

How rude of the Oxfam man *GreyQueen* but loving the story of the amazing travelling blanket! :D

I'm definitely interested. What do you mean when you ask for the Facebook login though?

The 40 bags in 40 days challenge now has its own Facebook page. If anybody else wants to join I think it can be found by searching for '40 bags in 40 days challenge (UK)' on Facebook. Alternatively drop me a PM. :D

I'm thinking about whether buying this would be a good idea

    https://www.livingsocial.com/deals/1000907-shoe-rack?utm_campaign=digest_nationalshopeurope&utm_content=1569&utm_medium=email&utm_source=blast

I've nearly bought similar ones before but always wonder whether it would really be useful or whether I'm just indulging my love for storage items and kidding myself that they might be 'the one'!

I didn't even think I had many shoes until I started trying to declutter. Once I got most of them together (and I am sure there are others lurking!) I was shocked at how many I had. I bought some 'special' plastic boxes to store them in but think that maybe if I had them all on display it would be more organised. However displays get dusty!

I also have some really pretty shoes - although unfortunately the prettiest ones seem to be the most uncomfortable - so it would be a nice display. However, I think my OCD would go into overdrive - do I sort them by colour, heel height or type?

my mum has one of those racks and it's great if you have somewhere to store it. I don't which maybe is a good thing as my house is full to bursting as it is, got rid of 15 bin liners of stuff recently and I still have far too much in piles! It's really hard but I am finding it easier with the help from this thread which gives me daily inspiration.

I haven't posted in ages. My decluttering efforts ground to a stand still and suddenly I am moving and having to shift stuff - either to the tip, to the charity shop or into boxes for the garage so I can have viewers round. Trouble is I am disabled so the whole process is slow, and in the meantime, the place looks like a bomb's hit it! :o

What I found is that during the dehoarding it did help me to buy or source (relatively cheap) new storage racks or containers to help establish the new routines of regular mini-dehoards and appraising of needs. But then we did end up getting rid of some of them. So, yes, I would, and did, buy a shoe rack (not as big as that) but the one we have currently is not that great. It does serve it's purpose until we decide to revamp the hallway, and it also does mean that shoes are kept in the hallway.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

    morning all

Some great de-hoarding going on ... well done to everyone.

I have made some very good progress since last week. More 'stuff' chucked out and recycled. Got rid of a lot of books which definitely helps.

Today I am in the dining room. I have ordered a new oak sideboard as my last one has been resigned to the garage as it has started to fall apart. it was a flat-pack waste of money...saying that it has been useful for the last ten years. The new sideboard was reduced online but still expensive. This is a once in a lifetime purchase for me and I will be able to comfortably store everything I need.

Room has been hoovered, washed and windows shining. So now going to clean table + chairs so it should look lovely when finished.

One room at a time :)

    Keeping going folks.

Most of my shoes are in boxes in the spare room at the moment, although I have got rid of a few pairs. I was thinking of putting this rack in there. It would make them easier to find and might make it more likely that I'll get rid of some if I haven't worn them for a long time.

Well done on the 15 bags!

Is there anyone who can help you? I keep reminding myself that I may want or need to move house one day and it would be so much easier if I just had less stuff! I've been in my house nearly 20 years but when I moved in I made the mistake of not having a proper clearout, just boxing everything up. I'd only been in my flat for 2 years so I don't think it would have taken much to have a good clearout.
