I have removed the obsolete water tank from the loft: hurray for wd40, swearing and random tools used in non-standard ways. It's in the garden and is going to be a planter for the gooseberry I'm getting for xmas (will go well with the damson planted in the removed drum of my old tumble dryer (these honestly look OK surrounded by "proper" pots!).
but has unearthed at least another 2 bin bags worth of garbage under and behind it. which will have to be another day's task as that's me done for today - I've put 16 black bags out for the bin men this evening, some neighbours will be very displeased!!
oh and I've flung the inner of a very lumpy cushion, and a top that has bleach spatters on it. DD's bedroom is tidy, mainly because she's set up camp in my room, which is now my little pony central.
I may sleep in her room as it's the only tidy room in the house.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
I've stopped using Freecyle - my local one is very poorly run and full of very rude people wanting laptops etc. The clothes are 0-18 months mostly so not really suitable for most nurseries (our nursery always has plenty of clothes spare so doesn't want them), but I may continue to look around.
I've already got some baby clothing saved in case I lose my mind and decide I want another baby.Or if my daughter has one of her own in the very far away future.
Unfortunately everyone around me keeps having boys and doesn't want girly clothes.
The hunt continues! Keep it up everyone."Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -
The unexpected side effect of DH going through his clothes is that he has found a lot of receipts etc in jacket pockets. So I have been through them this morning, keeping what we need and shredding the out of date money-off vouchers. Found a couple of vouchers that we will be able to use.
I need to chuck a couple of out of date packets from the fridge. That must be done because I keep forgetting to do it.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Dad + GQ vs The Rough = a truimph!Oh happy day, the last section of The Rough has been cleared off the lottie, with 4 frogs (various calibers) and a small toad coaxed to safety. We double-handled the blue tarp out from underground, rolling it back and in places cutting into it with an old kitchen knife I keep up for such purposes.
Tarp was rolled and stashed in a compost bag which was also excavated, plus lots and lots of random non-degradable carp and oodles of couch grass and nettles. It's clear but will require more forking thru later to round up the debris of roots esp the horsetail roots which proliferate in there.
Dad agreed to taking their car around to the tip on the way back to mine so shed the bag of tarps, 3 wadges of chickenwire (Mum got the third one out from underground behind the shed, plus I took one to the tip on Monday), several rusty metal heating pipes and a chunk of concrete.
And, and, once back at the flat and had tea and bikkies, out came the drill and up went the corner shelf. Bought that beggar on 16th June and it's up on the wall on 16th October.Umm, by some of my previous standards that's actually pretty speedy. Felt like it was lurking around my living room a lot longer than that, tbh.
Also discovered why I was able to buy a stainless steel Therm0s at a bootsale for £1 in the summer; something wrong with it means that the heat in coming out thru the sides and the contents rapidly cools. Since I can't in all conscience give that to a c.s. will look at dismantling it a bit (separating steel from plastic) and putting it in the metal bit at the dump.
Have offloaded the mags to the brother, plus about 50% of the homegrown onions to the parents as I'll never eat them all before they rot. Have acquired the knitting pattern folders and a couple of other small bits due to go to the c.s. shortly. Plus have fetched a garden fork belonging to a pal down from my lottie shed and will take it to her home on Friday when we meet.
Folks have also taken my wonky 100 y.o. stick back chair home to be dismantled and remantled in Mum's workshop, so am on the backup folding chair which lives in the shed unless there's company.
All in all, a cracking good day.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

wow GQ very productive day!
Catriona - re the clothes, is it the money or that you want them to be useful that's preventing them all going in the bin? I've struggled over stuff that I couldn't throw away because they were in very good nick. In the end, if I couldn't sell them OR give them away then I had to accept that they weren't useful to anyone I could get them to and therefore they weren't useful, they were just rubbish.
I had a choice between sending them to landfil, or keeping part of my house as landfill, because the things certainly qweren't of any use tripping me up. If you really want them to be used again then it's probably going to take a lot of energy to relocate them: women's refuges, church or other organisations that help refugees and the homeless etc, or put them in a big box on your front lawn/yard/wall saying "free baby clothes" and see if it goes.
The only other thing I can suggest (and this is only if you're the sort of person who'll finish it! - I'm not) is a friend had a quilt made for her by her mum using squares of her baby clothes, just a few squares rom each, which was a memory quilt for both of them - the material had an extended useful life which both of them treasure, but wasn't cluttering up anyone's home just in case.
as for selling them I've tried ebay, tabletop sales etc and shifted a couple of pieces for about 10p each, and some very high end brands for near what I bought them for but over-all it cost me much more in time than I got back.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
spurred on by other's great progress have got the door out of the loft (involved a hammer) and the rubble, and 3/4 of the first layer of insulation is in place, including the fidldy bits around the spot lights.
rechargeable torch needs charging so prob won't get the base layer finished until tomorrow, but it's loads easier putting it down than taking it up, and once the top layer is on, I might be able to see the far corner of the lounge (which is where I am storing it!).:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -

Plus there's the feeling I Paid Good Money For That and it damned well better sell so I can get something back. Only, often it won't sell, or will only sell with an irrational amount of effort.I don't have any solutions to the general issue but think the Free box may be the way to go.
It's funny how I'm getting antsy about the clutter I acquired today; it's just passing thru on it's way back to the owner or to the c.s. but it's getting my goat.
The garden fork belongs to a pal. It got left in my lottie shed. It's been there for months, although I have mentioned it to the pal several times. They have a car and I don't, and cycling whilst carrying a garden fork is a bit tricksy. I've done it, but it's tricksy.
Sooo, I took the opportunity of having it carted down to the flat as the folks' had their car today. And felt that I ought to rush it around to the pal's place which is a 10 min round trip on foot. Which I shall be doing in less than 48 hours anyway, and I was tired, but I nearly hustled it off the premises just to be shot of it.
The only thing which stopped me was that I had stuff due to go to the c.s. (in another direction) and couldn't decide which errand to do first. So I changed into my jammies and laid on the couch, because the lottie business had left me plumb tuckered out.
Anyone else getting a bit twitchy with stuff on the premises when they've decided it must go?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Yes, but I need to get it all sorted out and cleaned up before I can dump it on a CS (it's all the cr*p the previous owners left behind that is getting in the way in the garage). And then I have to ebay/freegle/whatever the HUGE mirrored wardrobe doors that are too big for me to take anywhere!0 -

I do. I made my husband do a diversion yesterday to drop something off even though he was very tired, could have done it first thing in the morning on his way to work and could have left it in the boot of the car.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them.
