Ummm, well, it looks pretty damned tidy to me, LiR, but not sure whether you're happy or displeased with it?
I'm at my parents' place, in their back bedroom/ home office. taking a breather from grubbling about in the 12" gap between the foot of the cabin bed and the wall. Would you believe how much carp can be jammed in such an area?
The list; a cotton bedspread, a folded blanket, a box of candles, 3 large rolls of blister pack (more of the packaging mountain), 3 bags of carrier bags, a hooked wool rug (small) 3 holdalls (v. large, med and almost handbag size) and a very large and mercifully very dead s p i d e r.Think the s
prolly got stuck. I know I nearly did. Am now covered in fluff. Corduroy isn't the ideal decluttering textile; it catches and holds the fluff something rotten.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Saw this and thought of some of the discussions on this thread...

Thanks for that linkie, greenbee. I'd heard of the Collyer brothers' hoarded house but there is a phrase in there which is chilling; body found after 18 days of excavation.
Excavation, IMO, is a word which should never happen indoors. But you can see it; Mum and I watched one of those hoarding programmes, one with the original Richard in, peeping thru our fingers.
We both have tendancies and are both a bit claustrophobic.
I've been at the parents' place this weekend, back home in a few hours. There's stuff every which way, but I have stuck my oar into a few piles and made some slight differences.
Will be going away with a few bits from Mum (a blouse and some hankies) and have just furled a whole lot of carrier bags up into another carrier bag. One of the small indy local charity shops in town is pleased to have them.
Righty, bit more tidying out and then a bit more interwebulation.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I spent Friday morning going through all my books and managed to donate three very large bags of them to the hospital radiotherapy dept. DH's last treatment is tomorrow so I might even find another half dozen books to add.
DH is clearing out the garage and five solar lights are now on the window sill in the living room :j"This site is addictive!"

When a seasoned fireman goes pale, then starts to go red and sweat, then you can see exactly how bad it was in there. _pale_ Anyway, let's think of kittens and puppies and calm down.‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

That wasn't me- only time I've been to the Lake District was 1974; must have been a relative of mine. However, I think I was immunised against the decluttering virus at a very young age, and am therefore unable to perform as advertised. Or perhaps I was not infused in the first place - or maybe I have a natural immunity :rotfl:
Either way suzi you'd best not give me to your mum - I don't work
I love this thread :rotfl:

me too, you guys make me laugh!Suzi, about 35 years ago on holiday in the Lake District, we spotted a Round Tuit (our first ever sighting) and just had to buy it for Mum.
It floated around the house getting in the way for the next 20 years until I took it to the car booty one day and sold it. Some of these items are sadly of improper manufacture and not infused with the decluttering virus and don't perform as advertised.
Know exactly what you mean about the bag of yarn bits. We do that; Mum's an ardent knitter and you always end up with with tiny bits of yarn which are too small to make much but too big to bin in good conscience. I've made hooked rugs with them in the past but we're currently out of floor and also made handknitted blankets (in strips) which was a great way to use up loads.
Imagine my astonishment when the lady who goes by the MSE handle of Pennypincher!! posted a pic of the "wool" blanket she'd been asking for laundry advice on and it was one I'd made! I was able to tell her it was nearly all acrylic btw...
Gotta go see my Nan now - laters GQ xx
I think I remember you telling this story when roundtuit joined
Love the story about the wool blanket too, maybe when I am home at Xmas I will get it down and ask her to show me how to make something to use it up
Lostinrates I think that corner looks awesome., much better thsn ALL of my corners :-D My OHs dad always says when he comes round we should start tidying the corners first, though he has a phrase for it, I can't remember how it goes...
Lobbylud I know! I'm glad I'm not the only one, I think it may have been an ungifted present for someone who is probably too old for it now :-D
Whitewing for Xmas I will be decluttering lots of craft things for card making and hopefully for gift making too. I also hope to make a dent in my humoungus stash of giftbags! They seem to be mainly Xmas themed :xmastree:Don't turn a slip up into a give up

Deffo recommend kittens. Have a roll call of hoarded kittens from the blog Tetanus Burger.
The back story to this many kittens is that the hoarded junk yard home they inherited from their father was colonised by feral cats, and in the saga of trying to catch the females for neutering between pregnancies, a lot of kittens ensued.
My favouritst one is the one called Ratty (he's the mite asleep in the foodbowl, one of several they kept). Enjoy!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks, GQ! Shame that tetanusburger haven't updated their blog for a while. However, "Hoarding Woes and You" have (almost) finished the aunt's house; most recent post with a timeline of the disappearing hoard may be comforting to some of you. Either from the point of view of "It's possible to finish" or "oh good grief, I must have a tidy so I don't leave it to my relatives".‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

Yeah, I drop into Hoarding Woes and You from time to time and they're getting there. And when you remember that this is the second of two hoarded homes this poor family has dealt with (the second is their late Auntie's, the first was the blogger's late Mother's home - sisters) and it is all the more remarkable.
OK, off to the lottie, may spin by the tip on way home with some chickenwire (there's always some chickenwire, lol). GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
