You MUST lie to cold callers...

...

I recently upgraded my phone with T-Mobile. Someone has obviously sold my details on to a scummy company offering phone insurance. I received a call today from an Indian chap:

Him: Hello this is Raj calling from (some incomprehensive third party company) and we'd like to offer you insurance for your new phone.

Me (Smelling a rat and lying): But I haven't got a new phone. The phone I'm using is 2 years old... :D

Him: Oh. Er. Oh. Errrr. OK. Bye.

Me: Byeeeee! :D

    Same here.

Oh yes, I did have an accident, I was walking in town when some wind blow an insecure marque onto me, the marque was for *insert name of accident claiming company calling you*, I was thinking of making a claim.

That normally shuts them up if they are ringing from the same company which caused the accident :P
  • Started winding them up too, although a family members noticed a decrease in calls since she got her details removed from 192.com.

I tell them I only deal with reputable companies and they cant be reputable as they dont act on the phone preferential scheme. They then try to say why it doesnt cover them.

The solar panel ones get a talk on alternative fuels.

If the numbers witheld, I always answer with a sigh and a depressed sounding hello.

Asked if having a good day, reply "I was".

Make sure they are actually a cold caller first though guys, I've been shouted at/hung up on by customers who think I'm cold calling them loads of times! Doesn't bother me if they have to wait an extra week for their items because I couldn't get through to arrange a delivery date but I'm sure it would bother them! XD

I once had a call from a double glazing company.
She asked me if I could have my windows changed, free of charge "how many would I change" 1 2 3 or 4
I said well I only had new windows installed the previous year, but if they are free I will have them all installed.
Her reply was it does not work like that and hung up on me

We once had a company cold call us EVERY EVENING for about two weeks. They wouldn't talk to my mother, because they wanted to talk to 'the man of the house', and they wouldn't take our number off their contacts list.

So one day my mum said, 'I'll just put you on hold and go and get him'. She put the phone next to the CD player, stuck on some dreadful music, and left it for an hour.

When she went back they were still there!

I have actually found a foolproof way of getting them off the line really quickly which involves minimal talking to them and no rudeness at all.

last week my mobile rang and I took it out my pocket upside down and I swear it said a friend's name
so I answered it 'hello darling how are you?
cue them putting the phone down
it actually said 'private' as in withheld or private number but as I read it upside down I read it wrong ah well they aint called me back yet:rotfl:
