Garden Pests
Normally with snails, I would scoop em up into a plant pot and bung em over the wall into the farmers field, to check that if they were homing snails, I experimented and tippexed a couple of shells, and hey ho just spotted them and their extended family munching my garden. Felt angry at the leaf thieves, so went on a killing spree.
To mitigate there are currently as I type 6 blackbirds gorging themselves on the snail remains.
How do MSEs deal with their Garden Pests?, I sorted my Cat problem out without harming a hair on their heads

Yep, all snails have that homing instinct, unfortunately.
I hate to kill things too, but I'm afraid slugs and snails are the exception to this rule. Why should they harvest the fruits of my labour and give nothing in return? I do the same as you, squish the nasty little blighters and feed em to the birds.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
When I was a kid, I'd find a snail, put it on a paving slab, and put a circle of salt round it. Hours of fun.

I have one of those green compost bins, I put them all in there. The lid screws down so they can't get out & I make them work for me, breaking down all the garden & kitchen bits I put in there.
I'm sure it speeds up the process, & it stops them eating what I don't want them too.0 -
Pete, don't you end up with snail eggs in your compost?A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0

I only take it from the bottom when it's well rotted, I've never found any snail eggs it it. The snails always stay in the top layers.0

Joking aside I had thought about it.... Apparently the large snail isn't native, it was brought over by the Romans as a food. You starve then for 2 days to make sure they're clean inside, then you can cook them.
Organic and free......:D0
