Right - sort the mess out first...
Stop overpaying on your mortgage and pay off the most expensive debt first. Ring up the credit card companies and ask if they have any life of the balance offers as you are thinking of moving tthe balance to a cheaper 0% card otherwise. (How will they know any different.) A little persuasion can get some of the interest down. Then make up a spreadsheet with the most expensive card at the top. Put credit limits, balances and interest rates down in black and white so you know which card to attack first.

Ask for a payrise at work. if you don't ask you don't get.

I have no idea what the insurance on the tvs is? Do you mean they are on HP?

Do some of the other things mentioned by clever mse'ers above.

Show your DH you list of expenses and present him with a standing order to sign and post it to his bank for him so that he pays a good whack automatically for your essential bills every month. Otherwise tell him to clear off and find someone better.

Personally, I think your post title (Oh !!!!!! what have i done!!!!!!) applies to your relationship, and not to your debt, but as others have said the two are related.

    Aie!

The Sun holidays are brilliant. Kids don't care whether they're in Butlins, Benidorm, or Barbados. They wants beaches, sea, fun stuff to do like rides and arcades. If the hubby wants two holidays a year at £4000 a pop, tell him he can go where he likes, anywhere around the world - and pay for it himself - while you and the kids have a whale of a time in Skegness.

Sorry, but in my humble opinion, your hubby needs a sharp wake-up call. A rolling pin or frying pan would be a good start...
I was cut out to be rich, but got sewn up wrong.
  • morning everyone, just like to say thanks for all the help and support that has been given to me. Well an update: cancelled the milk, sky to the lowest i can, thinking of moving my bank account to a basic so that i can pay money off the o/d. OH working all day today and tomorrow cheekly asked for all this money and he has agreed. All holidays for this year are booked and paid for so carnt do much there. Spoke to OH about Sun holidays and he agrees they could be fun so its England for us next year but looking forward to it already. Have rang cc company and they changed the rete from 24.9 to 16.9. Just applied for a transfer to a cc offering 3.9 untill july 2010. Boss also taking on £10,000 and i dont have to pay it back so thats a big dent in my debts. Thank god for bosses like mine.

Hey pink bubblegum, great to hear you've made so much progress in just one day - well done you! I'm sure you'll all enjoy your Sun holiday and it sounds like your OH is open to discussing your finances at least.

And what a lovely boss! Incredible!

I read your other thread on saying no to children and wanted to say that I have 4 children, the oldest two similar ages to yours, and they are all really good and understanding about our debts.

They positively enjoy helping out with carboot sales and little money-making extras (last week we delivered 500 Yellow Pages for £100 so I'll share that with them). My oldest daughter is great at customising clothes that she gets from Freecycle and looks better than her friends who spend a fortune in Top Shop. My oldest DDs get £10/month pocket money and a maximum of £10/month on their phones.

Good luck with it and keep posting - I feel sure you're going to make very fast progress busting your debts judging by today's update.
    Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.62

Is he looking for a new employee pink ;) I could PM you my CV :D

On a more serious note you seem a little chriper this morning and rightly so. Whilst your hubby has been slated on this thread (and rightly so) I just wondered if maybe you may have painted him in a worse light than what he really is (I'm not defending anyone here and hope I'm making sense) - sometimes when our OH's do something to pee us off its easy to vent our frustrations and OH to come across as a REAL bad guy/gal.

My OH can be a first class @sre sometimes and I know you lovely DFW's would have a lot to say :p BUT really he's a good bloke and I'm no Angel either :A None of us are perfect.

From what you say he seem pretty ok about giving you more money (make sure he gives you whats totally fair, how about a % of his wage based on the ratio between you outgoings and earnings so you would be left with some *me* money too?) and a holiday here next year.

I wish you all the luck in the world both to clear your debts and for your relatonship.

    Much Love

kids have said that they want a cheap sun £9.50 holiday next year, OH knows that i carnt afford all these things but just engnores the fact that he dont pay for anythng all he pays for is half of secure homes and i get an extra £20

    Simple answer to his pigheadedness.

    "Dear Husband.

I am in serious trouble because even though I earn 1/3 of what you do, I'm expected to foot the majority of the bills.

On Monday, I am going to the County Court to petition for bankruptcy. This will have a direct effect on your credit rating too.

If you don't want this to happen, you need to grow a set of balls and start acting like a man, get your hand in your pocket to help sort out this mess and contribute YOUR FAIR SHARE in future.

We're supposed to be a partnership. At the moment, it's all one sided.

Real men support their families, not the other way round. Perhaps it's time I went and found a real man."

Do you think it might be time we stopped having a go at her husband and just provided the support she's here for?

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Well done on the cut backs. Good to see you are making progress. Not sure what you mean by your boss taking on £10,000?
