If the council have told you this it's likely to be more accurate than anybody on here can tell you.0

hi
i am on income support because i care for disabled daughter.i have just recieved my council tax bill and says from april i have to pay 29% = £33 a month is this right plus trying to get me to pay £58 a month for bedroom tax.just about manage now never mind come april.
Hi Seana
Sorry to hear you are going to be hit hard by these changes.
The Council tax benefit contribution is towards services that will vary from area to area so is set by your local council.
The bedroom tax is handed down directly by Central Government that the Local Authority has to abide by.
If you want to tell me a little bit more about the bedroom situation in your home, and your daughter I might be able to give you a bit more advice. How many bedrooms are there? Are there any other children? The most wasted day is one in which we have not laughed.0 -
hi
we had our own 2 bed bungalow but was no suitable for adaptions so was put on the choose n move on the advice of council medical officar and social services for a two bed council house as i could not afford to take another mortgage for a bigger house and it was getting really hard for the wife and i .so in the end they offerd us a three bed newbuild with all the adaptions done {through floor lift, hoists wet rooms etc.we have just the one child and my sister inlaw stays twice a month and sleeps in the spare room we was very happy to wait for a 2 bed but we are going to be worst off than if we had stayed in our own home. i have just phoned for the discretionary payment form see where that takes me0 -

I don't mean to be nosy but what happened to the proceeds of the bungalow?0 -

I'm glad you got suitable accommodation sorted for your family it can be very difficult to get the right accommodation.
You mention your sister-in-law staying is this to help with caring for your daughter to give you or wife a break from caring so you can get a couple of nights good sleep for example?
If this is the case you may have a argument that you need the extra for room for a sleep-in carer to give you and your wife respite. It is highly lightly you may need this in the future anyway.
From the LA's perspective if they can justify the spare room under the regulations for a sleep-in carer rather than pay DHP it makes sense to do so.The most wasted day is one in which we have not laughed.0 -

If you read back through the OP's posts you will have your noseyness fulfilled.

I wasn't being nosy, it was a relevant question and simpler just to ask.0 -

Seana another point here is now you have explained your families housing needs why you were placed in the 3 bedroomed property in the first place.
If the sleep-in carer is not an option that is applicable.
The I think there could be grounds for appeal on Human Rights grounds, the Child Poverty Action Group are working on information for claimants.

So keep an eye on their website for further updates or here I will post any when we know more.
You only have 28 days from when you received the letter announcing the decision to make an appeal, so this does need to be born in mind. You will still have to pay the excess in the mean time. The initial request can be simply asking to have the decision re-looked at and explaining the cirucumstances, keep it brief.
Also Discretionary Housing Payment is apparently set aside for those who are in adapted properties, so again apply for this as well if you really think you cannot manage without it.The most wasted day is one in which we have not laughed.0 -
