Surely those on benefits are more likely to receive help from the council, so will be getting better 'value for money' from their council tax?

why would someone on benefits be getting more services though?
i cant see that someone on JSA would be getting any extras.

i get extra sevices because of my disability, but i know that very few people get the level of support that i receive.

i would have thought that the people that get best use of council facilities would be families with children

Many people on means tested benefits receive reduced (or free) travel on public transport, reduced entry to amenities and even gym membership.

i dont know where these people live then.
i get a free bus pass, but there isnt even a companion pass available for my PA.
and you also know there are no concessionary gym prices unless you are of pension age

so you dont have street lighting or maintained roads?
or library facilities... leisure cebtre ( it is your choice to use the facilities provided or not)
there are no police or fire brigade?
    public spaces arent maimtained?
    the list is endless

Yes and I am contributing more than my fair share. Funny how those who benefit the most are the last to contribute.

    have you never had children?
are you never going tp get old?
can you guarantee that you will never become ill/disabled and need extra services?

maybe you will now say that you will have to pay for those services because you have made arrangements to have an income that precludes you from getting them free.

but the 'people' that do and will in the future, provide these services, were all someones child.
they beneffited from the services, and you will benefit from the srvices they will provide for you[/B]

Extremely high, especially for those on JSA and live alone.

Kirklees are being unmovable on both housing benefit and council tax. I posted about a friend who's son was at uni and husband disabled. They are not recognising the DLA care component unless it's the highest rate or child at uni who comes home frequently so needs a bedroom. She's gone to her mp to try and get clarification, his office couldn't say definitely so has sent it onto DWP to see what they say as it seems to be down to each council how they interpret the new rules. Even when asked about the discretionary help they are off hand on the phone. She's still waiting for the form to come out.

It is the norm to have concessionary rates for people on benefits. Your council is in a minority I believe and your gym membership is very reasonable anyway.

Here, means tested benefits make gym membership less than half price and they also offer carer concessions.

But you get a support package worth thousands, perhaps your council can't afford to do both?

Most areas I've lived give concessions for those on means tested benefits plus free parking for Blue Badge holders. As an example,
