I am sure that both Tinks and mumto2boys do a great job. My thanks to both of them. But, I don't suppose they have time to check each post on the board on a regular basis and even if they update the list, the post is still there, unless we PM both the person who maintains the list and a BG to move the post to GO. I was just wondering if there was an easier way to do this, perhaps as Ren suggests by collating a list, rather than sending lots of PMs.

Yup brilliant idea,

As the only people that can get rid of a post is the person who typed it or a BG.

You would not need to scroll through the added comps if the fron't page was up to date, that's what I meant

And yes they do a fab job

If we could find a way to collate a list, we could just send one PM to a BG and one PM to the person who keeps the list to say please move all to GO and one PM to both Tinks and mumto2boys, or we could just invite them to look at the thread. Should we just comment on the end of the daily / weekly thread? If this is the best way, then I am happy to do some, but I think it needs a mass effort to do them all. Is it best to bump each one to say something on the lines of "I think this one has expired and I have sent a PM to xxBG and xx" or is this not necessary?

Maybe....hold off on any plans, and pop a thread in the Site Feedback forum, asking if the expire button could be added into the Regs board. Would save a lot of effort if that could be applied.

I don't see why it couldn't but if it couldn't then you could come up with some sort of gameplan. Once you got past the brunt of the dead threads, would prolly only need a weekly upkeep.

I set the board up to have 200 threads per page and sorted by date of last post ascending, and straightaway saw maybe 100 locked threads from 6+ years ago coming forward. Every thread would have to be checked though, to make sure they were no longer live. On the plus side, less than 400 threads to check.

As it is not certain that either Tinks or mumto2boys will venture into this thread, I think that I will try sending a PM to each of them, to ask them to pop in to this thread and see if they have any ideas. If enough of us were to do it, it would not take to long to bump each competition to say if it had been checked and was still current, or if it was dead.

Edit - I have tried sending the PMs, but Tinks has opted out of receiving PM's.

The only problem is that if an expire button were added, the comp might move to GO without the list being updated.

I reckon it would be one day's work for one person if they gave it a go. Sort of thing I'm into but I'm too far behind lol!

I can only talk for the weekly board, and I've just pm'd Marg to say the same, that when I took over from Gilla a few months ago I stripped a lot of the dead wood out and started the front page from scratch and split it into its current format of Web/FB/Tw for the appropriate days.

I do check in every couple days to clear out the comps that have a date on, the only ones I don't check on are the E: Ongoing but I can have a whizz through them again to see if any have expired so that the front page is up to date if that helps.

As for the actual thread where there are loads of really old weeklys that I haven't included in my front page, I can't do anything with them, it's up to a BG as someone here said to move/delete them and that would take someone/some of us/a BG to go through and check each one. Once it's done though the upkeep for the weekly thread at least would be pretty easy as I only really have to amend anything every couple of days, would be more work for Tinks on the daily thread due to the amount of comps but again I would imagine once it was up to date it would be easier to maintain?

I take it you mean there are are a lot of the threads in the regs board that need 'expiring' every now and again people will try and go through them and get rid of the dead wood, maybe it's time for another clear out

I've just opened all of the locked ones, so whenever anyone has a bit of spare time they could check a few threads, any with an expired comp will need a pm to me to move to GO and a post in the relevant sticky to ask Tink/mumto2boys/me to take the link off

I'll join in so if anyone willing to help concentrates on the weeklies/dailies in there, I'll start on the ONCEONLY comps as I can take them out of the sticky as I go along
