Surely if anyone comes across a comp that's expired there's no issue just adding PPE so that it can be deleted quickly.
It's gone from the first page within a minute or so anyway and most people won't even see itA strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others.0 -
Hmmm.... my take. Actually, I'll tell you my routine, as for me it appears to be the most efficient.
Firstly, I'll (in a minute, after this) enter all those that end today. I won't expire those with a time in the title, eg. 4pm, because it's not that imperative as mjm says to clear the board straight away. If the comp has finished and there isn't a time in the title, then I'll post winner details/comp ended bumph and ask for PPE. When there isn't a time in title I assume the comp is due to finish at midnight.
I then go through and enter all those finishing tomorrow. Same rules apply as above.
I then sort the board by title and find yesterday's date (I find using search isn't that functional for this, 1) because recently moved comps show up in search even after unchecking child forums box, blocking valuable space, and 2) Might be wrong here! If you search '18/09 Win' it will only show those, and not '18/09 win') and expire through the lot in one go by opening a new tab for each. When you click expired in each comp, you only have to wait for the web address to change to one with expired in, and then you can close the tab. No need to wait for redirection, unless you want to see if yours is 'The Click'. Using that method, I can normally get a page (200) done in about 15-20 mins.
As queried previously, in expiring, '?'/guessedend comps are considered to be the same as definite comps, so should be treated the same, as Glad does. If it's extended, she's happy to be PM'd to move back and date edit. In all honesty, the only people that would miss out on that comp are those that would look for it between it being moved and it being ended. The end-daters, and front page sitters would have decided, it's an old comp (in terms of being posted on here), the listers would have seen too, I believe it's only a very small minority that wouldn't get that chance to enter.
I then quickly check for anomalies, like 18/9 or 18.09 and for those I will bump for PPE, with the reason too.
Now that I have my rattle back, I then count how many are remaining, plus add links to anomalies and post in here. When it's up to date, I make the up to date bit big (see my last post).
So in summary, (for now!)
I Bump PPE early ending comps, incorrectly dated dead comps and the lone stragglers of days ago.
Everything else, I'll expire the next day without bumping.
Hopefully that makes sense...Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...

There is no issue with it staying unbumped, it takes the same number of expired clicks to get rid off it but leaving it does not impact users who have already seen it.
This morning there must have been 50/60 plus competitions bumped up the board which only expired yesterday, meaning trawling through pages of posts to check for fresh ones.0 -
Much of this "expire" is a waste of time when what takes a couple of goes for a BG takes well over 1,000 clicks for the users to get the same result.
Perhaps they need more people to step forward before they make a choice but it is only just over a couple of months before the advents start and surely it would be better to have someone in and trained before then rather than borrow someone like last year.0 -
Thanks for clarifying renegadia.
I had spare time this morning which was why I went through yesterday's.
Normally I comp by end date in the evening and then go through expiring some previous days comps that have ended.
This morning about 8 went to GO when I clicked expire and they were the big number of entrant competitions- Stylist/Shortlist/Guardian/Telegraph ones.0 -

Sorry I have not been helping with expiring comps for a while now. At the moment I don't have the time.
But this was one of the reasons why we are getting another BG.
Hopefully really soon
When there is another pair of hands or two, then it would be easy once trained up for one BG to expire 200 at a time every day.
It could be a routine come on the board & expire the day before's comps before starting on answering Pm's & merging.
Just a though

I don't think it is a good sign that the thread asking for anyone willing is still open, I assume once the selection process has started it will be either be locked or amended to show no one else need apply.0
