Depends which way the wind blows and if it affects him.
What I want to know is why this "Perk" is available to people earning up to £150K x 2?
I can understand your average punter or even somewhere in £50/60k region for a single earner but above that?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

white horse is a clear case of self loathingSelf-hatred (also called self-loathing) refers to an extreme dislike or hatred of oneself, or being angry at or even prejudiced against oneself. The term is also used to designate a dislike or hatred of a group, family, social class, mental illness, or stereotype to which one belongs and/or has.

If people can't afford childcare then they should stay at home and look after them themselves.
It's about time the having kids gravy train hit the buffers. The country can't afford for it not to.
Is that not a circular argument or paradox?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Because its other people's children who will be maintaining order, health and buying your overpriced house when you're old and decrepid.
but this investment is made through Child benefit
Childcare vouchers subsidises people that want a career and want to have kids, where, imo, you choose one or the other, or you pay for the lifestyle you choose
I've never really understood why some people have children, then leave them with someone else to raise 70% of the time0 -
Sure I have been into an NHS hospital on a couple of occasions. Both my wife and I pay into private healthcare and have done for about 15 years. My dentist is again private and I can not recall ever seeing an NHS dentist. OK, almost certainly I will have had some use of some state provided services, but that is picking hairs.
As a married couple we get married allowance on our earnings, a pointless 'incentive' IMHO and would like to see it made equal for married and non-married alike. Both my wife and I are higher rate tax payers which I do not quibble about, I am happy with my lot. However I fail to see why we are EXPECTED and indeed vilified if we are not sympathetic to supporting other peoples children and life style choices.
Wow, such bitterness and short-sightedness. Fertility problem??0 -
you all misunderstand my anger. if the Govt said there were no longer benefits available CB, vouchers, whatever, for all. That would be fine.
But when someone earns, say, £50k on their own and they get no help, but two people on £150k each (£300k combined) do get help, something is CLEARLY wrong and if people can't see that - god help us all.
the same with the CB farce. One earner on £60k (could be because his wife is dead) with 4 kids gets nothing at all. Meanwhile, the couple next door earning £50k each (£100k combined) get full CB for their one child. It's clearly idiotic and costly to run. And it was so much simpler and fairer to:
a. stop CB altogether
b. stop CB for children over a certain age, say 12?
c. only allow it for 1 child, or possibly 2.
this is why I am angry with the schemes. of course I want the money, who wouldn't?
as for a stigma of being on benefits - as I have said a million times, most people in receipt of these types of benefit do not even consider them a "benefit". they consider them an incredibly small amount of tax already paid rebated to them.
if i were a rich pensioner and was getting £250 fuel allowance, I wouldn't give it back. 99% of people wouldn't. If I really didn't need it, I would give it to my children or grandchildren who probably do need it.0 -
Why should I pay for your state pension or any future life saving treatment once past pensionable age? You are no use to the country, so why not stop this wasteful expense too?
Can you please explain what you mean by "you are no use to the country....."
I was asking a general question (to another poster who already answered my question).
I don't have any kids myself. A state pension is about the only thing I can think of that I would benefit from. That is if I live until my late 70's/ maybe even early 80's by the time I'm eligible. I don't think it's particularly relevant to compare benefits to pay for health care vs to pay for kids. People choose to have kids. They don't choose to get sick.

I not sure why so many people are getting bent out of shape about this. Childcare is a legitimate expense incurred if you have children and work. This isn't a 'benefit', its tax relief.
Childcare vouchers are paid for by the recipient, but before tax is taken. You're not 'paying for someone's childcare'. This is no different than a self-employed person claiming for petrol, use of a car, use of a room in their house as an office, purchase of work-related clothing.......etc.
