Match.com refund?

It's from these forgotten renewals that they make a lot of their money. It's for the user to take responsibility for not reading what they are signing up for.0

The point is that this company is knowingly taking money for services which it knows the client doesn't want.
Is it legal? Yes.
Should the buyer have consulted the terms and conditions? Yes.
Is it ethical for match.com to operate in this way? Personally I think not.0 -

Like many businesses (banks for example), Match.com relies heavily on customer inertia for a revenue stream.0 -
I agree, ethics don't come into it, I just wish they did. Especially for a company that's so well-known and popular.
Maybe it's idealistic to think this way, nonethelesss I think it's a topic their future potential clients would be interested in.0 -
I just got a refund from match.com today.
Like some others in this post, I cancelled my auto renewal when I joined in January this year. Suddenly I received notification from paypal that match.com has auto renewed and charged me £77.
I emailed match.com early in the morning but by the time I got home, still no reply.
I called the number on match customer service: 02030596492. It was a call centre in Morocco. The guy said they have no refund policy and if I didn't get email confirmation that my auto renewal was cancelled, it means it's not cancelled and will auto renew. I told him that there is no way the customer would know this beforehand and the conversation went nowhere.
I then posted a dispute on my paypal transaction, giving the link to this thread, explaining how their 'auto renewal cancellation' does not work to many people.
I sent a second email to match.com, also giving the link to this thread and told them that I am disputing the charge, and that if I don't hear back within 24 hours I will write to the Trading Standards, Office of Fair Trading, Consumer Direct and any other sites I can find and create a page about this issue.
Today I received email from paypal and match.com, confirming a refund.
This is my second time with match and I find them to be worse than 5 years ago. When it was near to the end of subscription, I suddenly received many interests from people in EU who said that my profile was on match.com affiliates site. I disagree with their business ethic and won't be rejoining.0 -
There is a way out of being charged for a 'continous payment authority' service you don't want. Tell your credit supplier (bank) to terminate. Don't get mad at match, get even. I not only made a chargeback, but I now owe match.com the same amount which my bank took out of their account during reversal. Very neat. They will eventually get it, but not before they go through a few hoops and I get to chuckle at their silliness.0

Hi. I am trying to get some help about match.com. I set up account September 2013 and never used it. I then got charged £60 ish to renew March 2014 and they told me it automatic renewal. After a lengthy irritating call I folded and said ok, hands up my fault but can I cancel now.
They have just charged me another 6 months renewal!!! I called up and got same all over again. Saying you should have an email from March confirming I cancelled but I have not - they sent to email account I don't even use!
Apparently I had two accounts. Not sure if it fraud with second one!
Anyway £180 down and have never used it!!! Can I claim refund legally or do I need to accept it?? Raging!!0 -
I've also been charged £78 by match.com today via automatic renewal. My subscription in May was for 6 months. I don't understand why they must take it upon themselves to automatically renew my subscription. I successfully got a refund by stating the guidance from Ofcom re automatic renewals.0
