Good Books Anybody?

I have just started to use the library again -- instead of spending loads on new books. I love to read but am finding it hard to identify good authors. I used to just pick the ones from the top picks.

I love books such as the Island, Sheelseekers,My Best friends Girl,P.S I love you
Any recommendations would be really appreciated:j

Do you enjoy reading crime books Scubaleopard? If so try Martina Cole - everything else is boring after reading these though. Another book I really enjoyed reading was Michael Pennington Wall To Wall - it's a must :D

    Scubaleopard,

I too have recently re-discovered my local librabry.
I would recommend books by Jodi Picoult. Particularly My sisters keeper and Plain truth. I am slowly working my way through her books.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Marian Keyes is my fave of all these types of writers. She used to be an alcoholic and her descriptions of sad moments are brilliant as well as the funny bits being laugh-out-loud good.

Have you read The Time Traveller's Wife by Niffenegger? It's on my Book Group list to read and is meant to be great!

I'd also recommend Martina Lewycka's 2 novels for a light, funny read. A Short History of the Tractor in Ukranian sounds dire but it is brilliantly funny and a great read!

I've also just read The Secret Life of Bees and that was good.

<work in a library and would second the Jodi Picoult recommendation>

If you liked "My Best Friend's Girl", try "The Accidental Mother" by Rowan Coleman. It's a similar thing, but IMO is much better.

Also, try "Want to play?" by PJ Tracy.

I agree with Marian Keyes and Jodi Picoult.

And the Shopaholic books by Sophie Kinsella are a great lighthearted read. She also writes under her real name of Madeline Wickham, and they're more serious but still great.
