eBay Opended Cases

In the past 12 months I have had 3 cases opened against us - all for INR's and 2 of those I told the buyer to open them as I was suspicious about them.

Today I have had 4 cases opened - all 4 of them were purchased last weekend or Monday and not one of them bothered to contact us 1st.

What on earth is going on????

I have refunded each of the 4 buyers so that the cases aren't recorded against me but it's ridiculous to say the very least! It will be this that pushes me over the edge and causes me to close eBay down if it continues.

P.S: Apologies for the spelling of 'opened' in the title!

How have you been posting them? are you using recorded or special delivery, because if you are just sending these items out with out proof of a signature upon receipt of the item, you haven't got a leg to stand on.

I send all of our items by standard 1st class post as it isn't cost effective not too since our items are generally between £2 and £5 each and our loss rate is around 2 per week out of around 650 on eBay and 3 per fortnight out of 5,000 on Amazon. (as a side note rather odd that the Royal Mail seem to loose a lot more eBay items lol)

The fact that an item hasn't arrived doesn't bother me in the slightest - it's just that they have all opened a case rather than contacting us so I was wondering if something has changed on the eBay side of things as it is very unusual.

Marie-20 is a very experienced eBay seller.

OP, I do find things come in waves, it might be just that- all your trigger happy buyers in one go. I don't believe any reasonable buyer would go straight to a claim that quickly , have you any dodgy competitors?

    Thanks Soolin.

That is an interesting thought - whilst we have a few none of them, as yet, have left feedback so we will see. All of them requested a replacement rather than a refund but I choose to refund them all and sent a little note explaining that as a TRS we are only allowed 2 cases every 3 months without closure within a short time frame.

I just found it odd that it was 4 within 1 day but I do agree things do come in waves especially on eBay.
  • Did you know Royal Mail have a service status page that can explain a major bottle neck because of snow or problems at depots? Also, as you are an experienced seller, I take it you are asking people to wait a resonable time. It's been explained to me by Royal Mail hat items can be routed to the wrong centre the opposite end of the country, and instead of being forwarded, returned back to where they started and go round in circles, thankfully not very often.
While some customers think you are stalling them, most appreciate the need to wait, and half of my queries turn up fter the initial contact. A further percentage explained through addressing issues.

Is it possible a competitor has used your ebay business to dropship their own sales & then falsely claimed multiple INRs in order to try to get ebay to suspend you ?

Personally i would consider writing a postal letter to each customer asking them to contact you if they are not aware of the non delivery claim

There are some nasty people out there
  • Would they not have to create a new eBay ID every time for that to go unnoticed?

  • it may have been me as I dont use ebay very often, but today I used the 'contact the seller' option to email someone about an INR and i got an email from resolution center saying i had opened a case. maybe your buyers are as dim as me LOL

You would have to go through about 3 screens though to do that, we all make mistakes but I cannot believe a case can be opened by accident.

OP, I assume you've already blocked them just in case there is something odd going on.

When 2 previous buyers did contact you - you told them to open a claim.

When others didn't contact you - your upset because they opened a claim.

    Make your mind up.
