Was it Judi talking about the washing up bowl. My mum always had one, but my hubby had never seen or heard of it and he only lived a couple of miles from where I grew up. Isn't that odd, I don't have one in my sink in the kitchen but i find it handy in the laundry, and no I'm not posh, shall we do a survey on washing up bowls, hands up:
Yes 'Twas me.
I'm firmly in the no washing up bowl camp. If i need to carry a bit of water around the house i use a large magarine tub that i use to keep the washing cloths in. Anything bigger i use a bucket. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Yucky day here as well, so washing is on the airers.
I made 2 lemon drizzle cakes yesterday and have sliced one and put it in the freezer for lunch boxes and we will have the other one at tea time.
I found a small joint of beef in the freezer so that is what we are having for dinner.
Judi doesn't your DH have something sugary on him like a sugary drink, glucose tablets or a mars bar for treatment of a hypo? He shouldn't drive either when he is having one.
DD phoned yesterday and said that it hasn't gone down too well with her boss that she is leaving, well tough, she has been asking for full time hours for the last six months with no luck, with her new job the added bonus that she will not have to work on a Sunday or Bank Holiday, has proper holiday and sick pay in her new job and doesn't have nearly three hours travelling to and from work or the added cost of extortionate bus fares.
Off for a cuppa with DH who has just got up, he is up at 5.30am every day, so he has a lie in on Sunday.

I am in the washing up bowl camp mainly as it is less hard on china when rinsing before using dishwasher, handy for soaking items and quick to pick up and put on worktop if someone wants the sink.
Having mixed Sunday lunch - using stewing steak from butcher with onions and carrots to make a good gravy, roast potatoes, home made yorkies, mushy peas which have been soaking overnight and lots of green veg. DDs fancy having a pork steak so they can have that instead of the beef.
Busy day tomorrow with DH and DD both having blood tests, doctor's appointments and more so hoping to have a la leftovers for lunch and maybe a stir fry or veg and chorizo pasta for dinner.
Last night's meal got rave reviews from family and I feel a bit guilty because it was so simple and quick. A salmon wellington from A**i baked in oven , fresh cauli, baby corn, mange tout and broccoli covered in cheese sauce and baked in oven . They felt really spoilt with the meal and it cost about one pound fifty each. I thought about making HM pizza or a chop with stir fry but we have had that quite regularly and I wanted a change.
Another thread mentioned buying cleaning sprays in small sachets that you then dilute in warm water in the bottle and that it works out as 16 pence a bottle for kitchen , bathroom, degreaser, glass cleaner and sanitiser. Very tempted and might order a few of the five pound packs if they still offer them.
Hope everyone has a good day and hug to those who could use one."This site is addictive!"

Glad your daughter has a better job - in all ways. From seeing what has happened with my dds - employers who have failed to keep their promises - re training, promotion etc. - are always amazed and disgruntled when they leave for something better. It never seems to dawn on them that if want to keep someone good then they should help them want to stay.
Going for a cuppa and to start off the lunch so see you all later.
Hugs to all."This site is addictive!"

Morning again everyone
We no longer have light cloud - it's raining steadily again - looks set in for the day too! Deep joy!
On the upside DH has had a bath, small cup of tea and says he feels much better and his headache has gone! Hopefully he'll continue to feel better throughout the day.
DS2 up, had a bath, and brekkie now watching tv. DS2 still in his pit - but won't wake him as he was up at 4.30am yesterday to go to work with DH and he didn't go to bed last night until gone 11pm - I used to be able to do that - but can't anymore! must be a sign of getting old!! Will go and get a lovely hot shower and hair wash - then some brekkie - it's going to be a lazy day here - watching tv, pc and chilling!

Morning
ForEver saving why is it so hard for people to understand that if they buy you random gifts you may not like them? I'm never offered if anyone wants to return something.
I'm a washing up bowl person, it makes it easier if I've forgotten to empty glasses or jugs once I've run my water.
We usually have our roast on a Monday. I don't want to spend the weekend cooking so Monday is a much better day.
I'm still taking it easy today though, still got some abdo pain although its not as bad as yesterday.0 -
I've always used a washing up bowl , so does everyone I know , if you don't use a bowl and dont have a second sink what happens when you want to throw say the dregs in a cup of tea away before you wash it ?
Just about to take dd2 to work , I shall nip into marks for a few bits while I'm there
Done the ironing this morning so I'm hoping for a quiet afternoon reading :T0 -
Hi all; and Happy St Patrick's Day for those who celebrate it.
Well, what a horrible wet day! I'm having to tumble the bedlinen:mad: – most washing gets put on the A-frames over the bath if it's wet, but bedlinen is just too much to do that; and my hopes for getting a bit of weeding done out the front are scuppered, mainly because Mr LW is a complete wuss where wet weather is concerned.:D
Re washing up bowls – I use one, because if I drop a glass or china item while I'm washing it, if it's in the metal sink, it'll likely break, but in a plastic bowl, it most likely won't. Also, I can put something to soak, and if the sink is needed for another task in the meantime, I can just lift the bowl with the soaking item out of the way. Works for me.;) Fwiw, we don't have a dishwasher, so all washing up is done in the sink; and as I now have to wear wrist splints the nearly all the time, I'm having to get used to rubber gloves, too, which I'm finding very, very difficult, and drop things even more frequently than normal.
Ooh – I feel another survey coming on.... rubber gloves or bare hands?:D
Judi you have heard the saying “If brains was a disease, men would all be healthy” haven't you??;) (Sorry Halight).:D
Halight I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to even cook a roast – our usual Sunday fare is vegetarian toad-in-the hole.:o Enjoy your fish!;)
Forever Saving sorry your birthday didn't go so well; my usual tactic (bearing in mind Mr LW is the only person who buys me gifts) is to ask for a raincheck, and when I see or think of something I really need/want, I'll tell him.:o
Julie honey, I don't have answers to pain:( (wish I did, believe me) but look, have a (((HUG))) at least.:o
I need to make a cake or biscuits of some sort for Mr LW's lunchbox next week - currently considering lemon, as we have some nice lemons from the market in the fridge.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Good morning.
We had a very nice day in London yesterday.
When we go to London, we normally catch the train to Victoria, but this time we got the High Speed train to Stratford International. We looked around Westfields shopping centre for a while and had our lunch there. We then jumped on the underground to Oxford Circus, so we could see the matinee of A Chorus Line at the Palladium, then back home the same way.
If worked out well, especially as it was a wet day yesterday, it meant we could be a bit more undercover.
The show was good - I've seen the film before, but not the stage show. It's quite a good 'backstage musical', and gives an insight into how tough showbiz can be.
Today it's mostly washing and iroining. We have a chicken dish for lunch from the M & S Just Cook range, which I do enjoy for Sundays.
Have a good dayEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Hello all!
It's persisting down here again, thank crunchie I wen to the shops yesterday! I have a washing up basin, but don't use it very often for the dishes, sometimes use it when soaking a bit of hand washing, and use it to fill my mop pail as it doesn't fit under the tap in the kitchen sink! No roast here today as I'm still home alone, but I bought a nice rib eye steak for myself at the shops yesterday so will treat myself to that. Otherwise nothing planned so far today although great aunt has another chest infection and had a fall on Friday, so might pop over to the home and see her if it dries up a bit!
Have a good day all!RIP Iain
