Lavertons website - real or not?

To the email question ... Gmail offer corporate email functionality for companies. Would emails routed via Gmail also cause the same warning? (Obviously not by Gmail, but maybe by other providers?)
So using a 3rd party provider may not in and of itself mean Scam-Warning. But the evidence posted in this thread still suggests that this is a company to avoid.0 -
I purchased something from this site last week, paid £45 by bank transfer and received an email saying my order has now been despatched. I hope I haven't been scammed. I will let you know if it doesn't arrive by the end of the week.0

Might be best to contact your bank, here is their registered address0

Hi all, thanks for those of you that originally highlighted this Lavertons website as a possible problem, it stopped me from buying there.
I have just phoned and checked with Fawley Watson Booth who are the Chartered Surveyors that were managing the disposal of that property and they have confirmed to me that Lavertons have never been in that location, and that it is currently a split premises with a Nail/Beauty bar in there.
Cheers all.0 -

My heart sank when I saw this. I already called my bank (Barclays) yesterday to report them. They said I have to wait 10 days from the day of purchase. They said there'd been no reports of any problems with Lavertons so far. Whether I will get my money back of course is highly unlikely as I stupidly paid by bank transfer. I feel like a total idiot :mad:0 -
I'm sorry you've been had, but for the future never pay for items by bank transfer (or western union).0

Well I was having second thoughts, I hope Im wrong but all the same I would not use bank transfer.
They did email me when I used their online form- They said they would deal locally in person by arrangement
So I guess its possible we are all being too negative, it could just be some back room operation.
Plenty of those on ebay, its just thats framed within that feedback process where as this is not
I found another site abelectricalshop that seemed too good, they have given me no response but they will take Visa Credit card, would I be safe enough either way with that ?

Yes, it's possible we're being too negative, however one forum user earlier had never received their goods from Lavertons. Mine still hasn't arrived, it was supposedly dispatched on Friday. Supposedly by Royal Mai, supposedly with no tracking.
I will wait till tomorrow before contacting them.
If it is just a back room operation why give a false address and phone number?
By the way scam adviser advises that Lavertons is a safe site.
It's annoying to have to be a detective online every time one makes a purchase, although it doesn't excuse my stupidity/greed/naivite of being seduced by price enough to forgo using a credit card.0 -

Be careful with Scam Adviser. Kitchen Arts, a definite bad one, was still showing as 99% safe in early March. Their rating system reacts after frauds have occurred.
This site http://scamchecker.net/website-scam-checklist.html is quite useful, to assess risk. I stuck in a few parameters for Lavertons and it suggested a 1 in 55 chance of Lavertons being legit.0 -
Yes just a tool not definitive. Its automated lookup on the website address
I decided not to use abelectrical either. Their credit card system is done via nochex which is a form of cash intermediary. Nochex would debit me but give no assistance should the worst happen. If I knew my cc company would refund me immediately it could still work but Im not on their gold list or whatever so I think I'll avoid.0
