With the quality of the doors being better where do these get sourced? Who are the manufacturers of these? All knowledge is gratefully received!

To be honest, on Oak Doors there is very little or no difference, it is on finished MDF doors that more expensive, better quality finishes and processes are used. You may say it is only MDF at the end of the day, but how it is finished does effect both the look and potential longevity of the door.

This is worth knowing - many thanks. But this assumes I want oak doors! Who manufactures good mdf doors? I am looking to order a batch next month. This for another bit of DIY/Project Management!

There is no doubt that German kitchens benefit from the German engineering effect. VAG cars have a good reputation, although in reliability terms they are middle of the pack, and way below many Japanese brands. German optics are first rate, think Leica and Zeiss. German kitchen knives have a deserved reputation. I must visit a German kitchen showroom, and poke about.

  • Wow didn't expect a full blown debate on the merits of German v British Kitchens!!!!

From 36 responses I have only received 2 which actually make an attempt at answering my original question, interesting reading nonetheless.

So moving on from my original question and bearing in mind the opinion that German kitchens are overpriced, which British alternatives would members recommend.

We have looked at others but can't find the style we are looking for (handleless) hence the reson for my original question on the three German brands, maybe someone can enlighten me????

    I'd say that's better than average:rotfl::rotfl:

But look, it has to be said, if you post such as your original question on a Money Saving Site, it is an absolute given that you will get suggestions that are intended to offer alternatives that might actually save you money.

Don't take that the wrong way, post away and ask anything, but don't be surprised when you get all the options put on the table, not just the route you may already have decided;);)

At least it stayed fairly pleasant this time out :o:o

GregD from my experience of searching and buying a Kitchen I found the the German kitchens competive in price. When I first started looking I searched for British kitchens (Wren,Crown). The quotes were coming in at 40k,30k and 25K.
I then looked into the German brands, namely Hacker, Ubber, Nolte, RWK and Schuller.
Surprisingly the German Kitchens came in much competitive.

    Hi Gregd

Exactly! Handless kitchens are the realms of the Germans and Italians, they have been doing it for years.

Mereway is the only English manufacturer that has been doing handless for a while but there are some limitations with what they can do with the handless concept compared to many German manufacturers, and then when you consider the fact that you can get several German makes a little cheaper than Mereway, the sensible answer is stick to German.

    Good luck

CK, many thanks for that! I thought I had missed something glaringly obvious in my research.

    No problem Gregd

Its kind of an unwritten rule if you want modern handless then go German and if you want traditional door in frame style kitchens then have English.

When you really think about it, in its most simplistic form its really the middle ground where the crossover is and where all the 'bickering' comes from!

As an observer who knows a thing or 2 about German handless kitchens, Leicht out of the 3 you originally mentioned, I think is the best brand and would be the nicest handless system. But far more important is the quality of the designer and the reliability of the company the designer works for.
