Easyjet flight price increase

Last year i managed to book flights to Faro (Portugal) and back for three people including speedy boarding and luggage at the end of August for around £650
This year the same flights with luggage and reserved seating for the same week are now around £1150
This is the only week i can go. I know we have to be robbed for the return journey as its over the bank holiday weekend and towards the end of the school holidays but this is a massive increase of £500.
When you go into the booking to reserve seating it looks as though not many seats are reserved at this price so far.
I just wondered if the prices may come down slightly, when is the best time to book, and is there any chance of a 'easter sale'
Or are the prices only going to go up now?

Are the flight times you want likely to be popular?
Are you flexible with your dates?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

The departure flight should not be too popular but the return journey will be in high demand. The basic prices at the moment (without luggage and reserved seating) are around £60 each for the outward flight and £260 each to return.
I am restricted with my dates, at the moment have tried 22nd to 28th August. Could do it couple of days later but have to have the kids home in time to return to school on the 2nd September.
The return flights at the moment are more after the 28th.
Thanks for your reply though0 -
Nobody knows if the prices will come down. I find that easyJet's sales usually aren't that great so I wouldn't wait around for one.
Could you not fly back cheaper with a different airline?0 -
Flight prices are much higher this year, lead by Ryanair whose peak season prices are around 30% higher. Despite the price rises, bookings for peak dates are very high, off peak dates may see price reductions but the airlines seem to be able to get away with the high fares without a problem, so wait at your peril to book!0

I think ryanair are slightly cheaper for the return flight (different airport) but ive never flown with them and have read a lot of bad reports. I have 2 children that need to sit with me as well.
My main concerns with ryan air are weight restrictions for hand luggage, online check in, sitting together etc. That many additional terms and charges adds to the stress when travelling with kids.0 -
Just because there seem to be plenty of seats available to reserve does not mean that there are not many passengers on the flight, you do not have to buy reserved seating, but when you checkin a seat will be allocated then.0

The other big problem is that the big travel firms (eg Thomas Cook - see link) are block booking seats on easyJet. Three guesses when they most want seats.....

Ive been trying to think of a decent excuse to take the kids out of school the first week in september. Prices are around £500 cheaper. But thats a whole different discussion.
Should i save the £500 and pay the £50 school fine0 -
Where are you leaving from?0

Hi. Flights seem to be extroidinarily expensive this year. Some of the prices have really made me balk.
How old are your children,- primary school? I am taking my dd out of school in may for two days. She is in year 7. The difference in going away on the wednesday leading up to half term rather than the friday just after school finishes was £130!
I will continue to take her out for a few days every year until she does her gcse's.
When she was in primary i took her out for a week most years. Her attendance record is exemplary, and she has had no days off at all this year so far.
I'm not sure if fines are enforcable, but if they are i would simply refuse to pay them!0
