Let me guess scare mongering Reps?, I have walked about most evenings, whilst on holiday in Israel, Jordan and numerous places in Egypt and the Sinai, I even spent 3 weeks in the Gaza strip and was out every night I recent did a week with work in Libya, and again all was fine.
The rep in Jamaica was the best for me, she warned us that I would be murdered and my wife raped and murdered if we set foot out of the safety of the complex. What utter rot, we befriended a local cabbie who could have taught the Thompson rep a thing or two about being a rep and customer service and we had a hoot including some very late nights at some fantastic reggae clubs, bars and restaurants.
I would suggest packing a large amount of common sense and dont act like a victim, might seem an odd thing to say but you can spot the victims a mile off, and your average foreign scroat can recognise them immediately.
Also dont flaunt your worth, if your in some parts of the world, be subtle dont have 2ks worth of camera and 5ks worth of watch on your wrist where the average monthly wage is less than $50 a month.0 -

But you're a man - of course you're going to view Arab countries differently.
I find Turkish men to be despicable and so does the missus. We went to Kusadasi a few years ago but never again. Constant wolf-whistling, leering and grabbing their crotches.
Mind you the wife is a bit of a looker so I suppose she must expect a certain amount of unwanted attention but generally Turkish men are about as subtle as a flying mallet.
Business-wise also I wouldn't trust a Turk.
I remember once having a drink in an Istanbul bar and watched the barman in front of me, bold as brass, re-filling a load of empty Perrier water bottles from the tap and re-stocking the fridge !
You're much better off in Greece. A truly civilised country, the crucible of democracy and fantastic people where women are respected and revered.0 -

We're like you and always enjoy a walk in the evening and I'm just wondering why you want to avoid the eurozone.
If it's down to the poor exchange rate compared to last year then I would still rather choose somewhere where safety is not an issue, even if the cost is slightly higher.
As you are travelling in June the weather should be good anywhere in the Med.0 -

thanx again for all info, its all subjective, I know, horses for couses & all that, & it wasn't a rep that advised us but a hotel employee, but the gun toting security was enough of a clue. We didn't want to travel the 3 hours to a London airport, just use our own local one so that cut back our choices - we've now booked an 11 night stay at a smaller adult only hotel just outside Olu Deniz in Turkey0

What about Singapore or Dubai .. Both Extremely safe.
Singapore you could leave your laptop on a table in a cafe come back an hour later and retrieve it!
Dubai is also very safe to wander about at night.
Singapore is very safe I went on my own and even late at night I felt very safe. I would recommend it to anyone just a shame I can't go back this year.
In relation to Tunisia I went last year with some friends and we left the hotel several times and didn't come across any problems.0
