Sh*t how do I deal withthis information??

I have to agree pww2004, ALL religions have paedophiles, but it is a fact that children are at more risk to abuse within their own family and family friend unit than anywhere else.
Comments like that Happyclappy are extremely offensive and I am not a Christian. I have lived with accusations of ritual abuse (due to my beliefs) of my children and I have successfully had the false accuser imprisoned. To add insult to injury, it was discovered HE abused my daughter, his religion however was irrelevent.
I am aware that abuse goes on but don't accuse people due to religion.
I wonder how many paedophiles are aethiest?

Quote from happychappy "taking them to a church with all the pervs and deviants working in the religous business"
Happychappy, I find this completley offensive and insulting. Just because you do not seem to like an organisation does not give you the right to slander them. Will you please retact your statemant, (If s/he does not, could more experienced forum members advise how I can complain to get happychappy removed?)
In my church ALL people who have ANY contact with children must be CRB checked. Is that the case in all organistaions you deal with?
As regards the issue of the gentleman, could you not ask that as children are involved anybody whos has a "supervisory" role be CRB checked and this may help your mind to be put at rest as unsubstantiated allegations should be treated as just that?
Apologies for the rant, but I dislike strongly being tarred with a brush and not replying.
PWW2004 What a strange world you live in, does it escape you the fact that time and time again people involved in the religous business are prosecuted for abusing children?
Is this not a fact ? do you not accept that time and time again perverts and deviants who prey on young children are employed within the religous business for one religion or another. Was it the phrase "All the" if this is causing you offence I apologise and shall amend this to "with perverts and deviants who have been convicted for child abuse and found to be allegedly working in the religous business" Does this really alter the facts and change the point of my post that children should not trust people in power over them, and children and parents should talk to each other?
If you felt I meant everyone I would have said everyone, but clearly this is not the case as I am sure there must be good people working in the business as well as the volunteers. Unfortunately a proportion discredit it for their own ends.
I am sorry you feel aggreived by me stating a fact that there are deviants within the industry, clearly this is undeniable, and with such a diverse world the same type of individuals I am sure are in other organisations, but the Church does allegedly appear to attract an awful lot. Or possibly the press are more sensitive towards it
I did not state ALL persons employed in this business were deviants and paedophiles, but time and time again they get found out and often the trail is there to see, if only their employers wished to face up to it and not hide the truth.
I also added the view that sometimes people who were whispered about, may not be guilty, but the whole point of my post is to talk to your children and be honest with them. A little light reading, and before you ask no I didnt write the articles of which there are many.

Is this a worldwide problem in the business, or just the press making up stories again ?

I am sure there are many good people who work in the industry and my point which you clearly miss is for children not to trust anyone and talk to their parents and parents to talk to their children. Just because someone is in a position of power to children does not mean they are safe.
And what will I now get from Asea and the religous police ?
"have you tried googling his name? there might be something in an old newspaper report or something of the same ilk you could also just ask him, perhaps "
What are you hoping to find Asea :j ? a dark secret from the past, yes possibly, as I was raised as a staunch Catholic until early teens. So what should I expect, a burning cross in my garden or a burning bush even  , Jeez whatever next, little wonder years ago one had to daub the sign of the fish and hide from persecution, now I get a reverse investigation by the Asea's. :rolleyes:0 -
Personally I am somewhat shocked that so many parents are advocating "wait & see" & "trust". Yes gossip is often scandolus & idle but it isn't always & I would err heavily on the side of caution where my sons safety was concerned in this sort of matter. any innocent person, although hurt by the report, would almost certainly understand a parents concerns to soem degree, a (potentially) guilty one may simply take advantage of your trust. Who stands to get hurt more, a innocent person falsely accused, or a traumatized child/teenage by a innappropriate act? Your priority lies with your children, not keeping other people happpy!
And as a church-goer, I am offended by the very innappropriately named Happychappys comments, perv's & deviants are not limited to or restricted to religious orgnizations you know, they are everywhere & pick their "hunting ground" according to their preference of victim & where they are likely to be trusted and so more successful! Why pick on religion as a culprit?! The 2 victims of child sexual assult I presonally know were assulted by a teacher & a supermarket emploee in their places of employment, no where near a church, and as a life long church goer I have never ever come into direct or indirect contact with this sort of behaviour in religion. Maybe religion isn't as media-savvy as the goverment or profit making corporations at dealing with these issues?Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

Anyone working with or around children should have a CRB check in my opinion.
Idle gossip is dangerous, there was a guy murdered who lived across the road from a friend of mine because people thought he had previous convictions for child abuse. He didn't. Amount of flowers put saying 'sorry' after it happened outside his home, he was attacked several times and so was his home before he was killed.
Also idle gossip, if ignored, can sometimes be even more lethal. My cousin was a victim of a child sex offender, rumours started when he moved into the posh village, noone said or did anything, 4 years later my cousin admitted the man had been abusing her for 3 years, since she was 9 years old. He was then convicted for 5 cases of abuse on children after investigations took place.
We've had rumours recently that we had another 'child sex offender' living very near me, I ignored it, then recently he was seen near the school collecting someones child. Police have since been to the parents house and asked her not to ask him to send him to collect the children as he shouldn't be near a school! Nothing much more to say really, if that doesn't confirm the rumours nothing will! One day I might be more organised...........

Have emailed the society to enquire re their safegaurding children policy and CRB check policy-the reply will be interesting- no only about our local group, but about the group that runs residential youth courses- you just assume that CRB checks etc are happening, but I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't:mad:  (DH teaches and the stuff he gets forms filled for eg medical consent for residential visits doesn't seem to happen for this group at all- fortunately the last one was minutes away from home so any medical probs we'd be there but it suggests that the organisation is lacking in many aspects!).0

what about talking to the priest? it's likely that they've heard the allegations before - no doubt there are children attending the church and this committee member will have spoken to other parents too. maybe the priest has spoken to the 'odd' bloke about it. although they won't tell you any personal details they should at least be able to tell you if the group members get checked for criminal records and possibly put your mind at rest if the gossip is false.
a concerned friend told my parents about a paedophile at our church. this was going back 20 years or more, and this man was being released from prison and coming straight back into the church, with access to children during the music activities etc. it wasn't spoken of, very hush hush so i wouldn't have known about it had we not been warned. he molested a few of the children over the following couple of years but my sister and i took precautions to make sure we weren't alone with him. the priest knew about it, i remember him once piling stuff into the middle seat of his car when i had to share a lift with this man in the back, he could tell i was scared and he winked at me.
this wasn't idle gossip - he was convicted and his name was in the papers, although the people i know he molested didn't tell anyone there were others who did. i'm really glad somebody cared enough to warn my parents. i think he preferred boys tbh, but i didn't understand that at the time. i didn't stop attending the music groups, but i took more care.
not that it's relevant, but he's the only sex offender i met who was religious, the others weren't.'bad mothers club' member 13
