Where does he put it all?!?

As a rather round mate of mine puts it, his weight is down to two things:
1. Slow metabolism
2. Fast pie arm
If you've got a fast metabolism, you have to stay active, if I had an office job, I'd weigh 20 stone.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
Why don't you cut down on your £20 per week toiletry habit?

It does seem like alot food, but if he is not overweight then he is obviously burning the calories.
Is where he works cold? My DH eats more in the winter when he is cold at work, so I send him with HM Made soup in a flask as well as his lunch box."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
The smoking is partly the cause of the fast metabolism. I am not going to preach about smoking that is his choice. But he must change his diet or at least get a cholestrol test and a proper analysis of his fat to make sure he is not storing up any problems.0

I will say though, when I turned 30, it started to slow down.
Dh found this too. Suddenly a couple of years ago he stopped being able to drop his "winter weight' in a couple of weeks in early spring. He's become a bit exercise obsessed so he can keep the eating up.
I think eating good food is the answer.....still looking at things like empty calories, salt etc, but increasing his nutrition. Sadly, it's possible to cost more.0 -

My DH does the same. For lunch is 4 sandwiches, a chocolate bar, a pork pie/sausage roll and 3 bags of crisps. Nothing nutritional at all; comes home eats a huge dinner then says he's hungry within an hour. I can guarantee if he goes out to the kitchen and it goes quiet he is standing in his usual secret eating spot and shovelling in food like no tomorrow. When we first got together he drove me insane as he talked about food non-stop and also ate really quickly and I honestly thought about finishing with him over it because his obsession was that bad. I don't know what the answer is but as he's got older he's not as bad.
We spend £60pw and that's 2 adults and one child.0 -
My OH and one of my sons is like this with a high metabolism. My son did slow his down when he started going to the gym and eating an enormous amount of calories in a day. They were made up of protein drinks, peanut butter etc Healthy stuff but lots of it. After doing this for a while he decided to go back to normal and now does put weight on if he eats a bit more than normal.
I would be concerned about the amount of salt and fat but it's his body. Maybe you could try a few little changes to start with and see if he agrees to improve not the amount but the quality of food.0 -
Basically I think the problem is that the food he eats isnt very filling as people have said.Biscuits, crisps, chocolate etc will be very quick energy releasing.
As people have said he needs to be looking at eating foods which are more filling/slow enery releasing e.g porridge, soups and casseroles with lot of veg and added lentils, pasta, wholemeal rice, beans and pulses,Jacket potatoes and sweet potatoes and lean proteins which are filling, cooked chicken,Tuna etc.
If he eats like this then he wont be hungry. Basically hes eating rubbish that's what the problem is.Also you need to tell him that if he continues to eat like he does he could be in line for a heart attack/diabetes. You need to explain to him that just because he is thin doesn't mean to stay hes not at risk.Good luck with it all.
Actually I think I would also encourage him to go to the G.P for a health check as well just to make sure there's no underlying medical problems.0 -
The simple fact is that if his weight is remaining steady then he is eating the right number of calories. Don't underestimate the effect of having a physical job. I've got a friend who is a plasterer and goes to the gym most nights. He eats over 4,000 calories a day. I do a desk-job and don't go to the gym. I eat about 1,600. We both maintain a steady weight.
Still, someone can eat the right number of calories but still have a bad diet in nutritional terms. Plenty of good advice in the replies on here on that front.0 -
My hubby is a personal trainer and eats a lot but your list shocked me because no one should be eating more than one bag of crisps a day his salt intake must be horrendous.
Plus how is he eating stuff like 4 chicken kievs? Don't you/him cook dinner and dole out one each?
My DH will eat pretty much whatever and could eat all day but it doesn't necessarily mean he needs to or is actually that hungry sometimes it's just for the sake of it.
We spend about the same amount as you but barely buy any crisps or biscuits - probably 1 pack of crisps a month & maybe 2 biscuits so I can't see how you aren't spending more!
What everyone else had said about eating more filling nutritious stuff sounds best. And stop buying so much rubbish.0
