No I'm not saying that I think it is very valued if I suggest carers in work should also get help financially I will get jumped on. ;)

Why do you think you can't do it? Do you mean financially?

I can't see anything about what they mean by adapted, (might just be me) they don't say major adaption as far as I can see so could it be like my mother who had a visit from OT and got a grab rail in bathroom, loo and at front door. It did have adaptations to suit her but not a significant cost.

No they don't but in jargon of disabilty talk grab rails are more aids.

An adaption is usually significant major costs involved. The 100,000 figure doesn't surprise me it's been my point all along about this tax it's hits the seriously disabled the hardest.

The other reason is that in our borough I know you cannot purchase an adapted home either after it's been done that was bought in around 2003. So a lot of housing stock left is adapted.

No, physically, mentally the reserves are gone. I have brought up 4 children and cared for my husband and done a demanding job, I have been able to cut my hours but I still find it tough. Finances aren't the problem, I work hard and earn £30k, he gets DLA high rate and SRP so financially it is OK.

It's a shame you don't feel valued, mumps. As I said above, I think carers do a fantastic job, irrespective of whether or not they receive carer's allowance.

It is very tough trying to do both and can understand thats what I meant about people trying to do both it's very hard on the carer involved.. I meant if you gave up now or soon the finances of it all?

Do hope you can have more time to yourself soon and with your husband it sounds like you need it. xx

Do you have a link to the 100,000 adapted homes and the criteria? It's not a figure I have seen before, and being honest I have always assumed it was lower than that. It makes no sense to force moves from adapted properties.

But moving isn't going to happen anyway or in very few cases because of lack of suitable available properties.

I stand by what I said when I first came on this board, if they had made a very small reduction to the HB in SH or capped it overall. They would have saved a lot more money and not got themselves into a politically disastrous mess.

I'm still waiting for a link on how Councils now apparently have the legislitive right to take into account DLA for Housing Benefit Sunnyone mentioned it. Although I'm not sure whether he meant CTB.

But it will be up for challenge anyway because it would have been pushed through before our ruling in May 2012, if it forms part of the Welfare Reform Bill that was pushed through in the March.

I would agree with Pipkin's definition of what a major adaption is.

Here is the link as requested. You will see that it also states the number on DLA.

Hardly an unbiased source, is it?

Thank you, I have just had a bad chest infection and I think the antibiotics are making me feel a bit down. I am normally quite a positive person, honest.

I suppose the problem is that it is alot to give up my job, I mean when I stop I am not likely to work again. When I get my pensions it will be fine, it is just the five years in between. Can't do much for a couple of years as my youngest is still at university so I want to be able to give him the same support as the other three got. Shame for him really, he was only two weeks old when the doctors gave us prognosis on my husband so he has never had a healthy dad, never known his dad to work, oh well no point dwelling on that now.
