As I'm sure you're all aware the NUS (National Union of Students) has a policy of not allowing fascist organisations a platform to speak.
Pity it doesn't censor itself.
I don't know why so many universities are members of this self serving shambolic waste of money!
It should help students instead of wasting money with campaigns on political issues. :mad:0 -
When I lived In Leicester, an ethinicly diverse area, the local paper published a letter from a far right group. I can't remember which one it was.
The paper decided to publish this despite the "abhorrent views" on the basis that these views should be aired so that we all know that they exist.
The decision had the desired outcome. Many intelligent people wrote in and picked the letter to pieces on inaccuracies etc. There was a huge groundswell of popular support against these extreme views, whilst other people helped to balance the arguement with well considered immigration debate.
The only loser IMO was the author of the original letterBehind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
Excuse me but having been educated abroad, I have no experience of British Universities, so please can someone tell me: are the students here deemed unable to form their own opinions and therefore need to be "protected" from certain extremist views? If this is the case, it is to be hoped they never pick up "undesirable" leaflets if they ever venture outside academia.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

Have modern students stopped thinking and now just toe the party line? Maybe it's the "powers that be" in the NUS who are the fascists...
[edit] lol Q - am I typing what you're typing... (Rory Bremner doe the accent better).0 -

Why has the event been cancelled? The University has, however, now learned that a very large number of protesters intend to arrive on campus. This creates the likelihood of substantial public order problems and real possibility of disruption of the essential activities of the University community, making it impractical for the University to allow the event to go ahead.
Potential public order problems ... not advocated or caused by the BNP!Gone ... or have I?0 -

I think they are working on the basis that we all live in protected little ivory towers and are never going to be aware of, nor affected by, current affairs.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Of course people should be left to make their own views and decisions, it just happens to be that those with the most distateful thoughts can often be the most persuasive as they tap into people's secret fears.First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Oppose facism/racism/bigotry in all its forms wherever it rears it's head. Use whatever peaceful means to disrupt it and stop it's spread. The BNP cannot be allowed to use academia as a means of raising support0
