WELL DONE CLARA ........... Im proud of you !!0

This might be a bit of a long shot but worth a try.
I suppose its success or failure depends on how many items you bought, how many you've still got unused sitting in the fridge, freezer, the pantry, a cupboard etc...,, how many you've still got the packaging for and hence the BARCODE (even if this means emptying your dustbin), and how good your memory is ! (and whether the dustman has made a collection since Wednesday)
Right, assuming that you did not actually buy the lamp, and assuming that there was not a lamp (or its barcode ticket) sitting on the checkout that got scanned accidently, or that the lamp's barcode ticket got scanned deliberately by the checkout operator as part of the shopping belonging to whoever was in front or behind you at the checkout, or the operator is "bent" and running some sort of scam that means that they have the lamp illumination their own home, THEN.......
...... unless the till's laser scanned someone in a striped shirt standing at the adjacent checkout, (or perhaps a ZEBRA walked by?).....then unless it just invented this item out of thin air ........
... something that you did buy, that did end up in your carrier bags, that you did take home, either got mis-scanned somehow OR had the wrong barcode on it (ie the one for the lamp)
Now, assuming I'm right, the simplest way to find this item depends on your memory.
If you can remember everything you bought (say 50 items) and you check the receipt and there are 50 items on it INCLUDING the lamp, then the item that is not on the receipt is the one that got mis-scanned or has the wrong barcode.
OK it's not as difficult as I've suggested because you dont have to remember ALL the (50?) items, the receipt in my example will tell you what 49 of the items are, what you have to do is remember the 50th !!!
Then you need to find this item, or at least its outer wrapper, and whatever barcode it has attached.
Hopefully it will be the wrong one or maybe damaged or defaced in some manner that caused the error.
If you do locate the item and it does not have the lamp's barcode on it, hopefully the "damaged/defaced" barcode will mis-scan again at an ASDA checkout and come up with the lamp's code !
Something that might assist this process is the fact that ASDA receipts have both a "description" and the barcode (except the last digit) as well as the price for each item purchased.
Happy hunting !!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought it was just me that had problems every time I complain at Asda, firstly I found a full chickens foot (with claws and everything), breaded of course, in a packet of breaded chicken breast. Asda didnt care a monkeys, and offered me a replacement packet( like I'd touch those again!). And last week I brought some flowers from there which had died within about two days, so I took them back and was met with the most evil customer service woman ever, who assured me that they never had flowers returned!!!!!! I bet they don't!!!!!
I know they are part of the worlds largest supermarket brand, but I feel they are getting very complaicent and the customer service is pretty appaling on all accounts. It has DEFINATELY put me off shopping there, especially when you think of your yearly spend at these places, and what they won't do for you when you have probably 1 or 2 complaints a year.0 -

I found weevil type thingies in my flour. All sizes from adult live and dead to tiny ones I could hardly see. I complained by phone and in fact told the first person I spoke to that I was very unhappy and that she wasn't paid enough to have to put up with a caller as angry as me and should promptly hand this 'angry' customer on to her supervisor - which she duly did.
Then I told them what I'd found, and that not only did I want all my opened flour packs replaced (four) in case the bugs had got into them but also that I wanted four airtight containers to keep my new flour in, in case the little beggars had escaped into the pantry at large.
Their products manager met me at the complaints desk, as arranged, changed all my packs and even helped me pick out the containers!
I wasn't really angry when I called, not even really upset - though I had been both. But I spoke like a person who was clearly right on the verge of being angry and upset but was managing, just, to hold it together and be polite...Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Well done Clara, and to everyone who stands up for their rights with these companies that seem not to care once the sale has been made.Steve Gerrard is a GOD0

Hi Clara
Pleased you got it sorted. the same thing happened to me in Morrisons A few years ago. Fortunately I had only bought a few items and was able to work out what had scanned incorrectly and got a refund. The checkout operater told me it can happen when a scanner doesn't quite pick up all the barcode and the numbers it misses are the barcode of a different product within the store.
What I'm surprised the first manager didn't do is to check the stock level of the lamps on the store system. For example the system would say 5 but when he checked the shop floor there'd be 6 there. (cos you hadn't bought one, the system just thought you had). Of course if we're talking having 1,000s of items in stock not so easy to do, but I would have thought it'd be easy to do with a product like a lamp.0 -
Hi spendless
I did infact ask him to check the stock to see if he had the number which was on the computer against the stock he had on the floor/stockroom etc as they couldn't have too many of those lamps and he just ignored me and said that if the computer said that it had been sold on the Wednesday then that was it. I think it acually made me more determined and angry when he refused to believe a word I was saying.
Thanks to everyone for their replies, but when I know I am right about something I will do my upmost to prove it, especially if money is involved. In future I think I may have to check my receipts a bit better especially for large amounts, it is v difficult with small items of grocery as you just do not remember the price of every item.0 -
Sorry to hear of your dilemma but I think the moral of this story is to check all receipts prior to leaving the store and if you do discover any discrepancies Asda normally refund your money and give you gift vouchers for your inconvenience. I have had a few problems of being overcharged on items and not just in Asda so I never leave the store now without scanning my receipt and it's on average £50 spend. Recently I got charged for 2 cases of beer when I only bought 1 Beware!!!!!0
