The arms falling of a sofa "suit", just call it a vest. :D

I think the term you're looking for is suite. :)

Seriously though, what was the cost of the sofa? £500 might seem fairly reasonable.

scs are trying to fob you off if they quickly offered £500. You can run it all the way to court and possibly get the whole price back + 10% but that will be alot of hassle & time.
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

Price + 10% ? Where legally does that come from, I've not heard of that.

OP, under the terms of the SOGA your parents would be entitled to a remedy of repair, replacement or refund (partial).

As the the first remedy isn't doing the job then you (your parents) could opt for a replacement but the chances are that this could have the same problem so the only real option here would be some sort of refund taking into account the usage that's already been had. £500 after 2 1/2 years is far too low given the original purchase price, although they are giving you the sofas on top.

Personally I'd be asking for at least £1500 and they can take away the suite.

Aw come on, you know as well as I do that he makes it up as he goes along ;) Our lovely zaax shows up sporadically telling OP's they're entitled to full refund + compo with little/no regard for whether they are actually entitled to it or not.

I have to say, i'm jealous. I'd love to live in a world like his where we're all entitled to full refunds (regardless of age, fault etc) AND extra on top. :T

I would take a discount and pay someone else to fix it. It should leave you with a fixed sofa and some spare cash.
