The Daily Natter of 2 Adults and a Moose

Hello everyone,

I’m not really sure where this belongs as its not 100% mortgage free wannabe but in a roundabout way, it will end up there.

For now, we are stuck in our current property (our first house purchase with a neighbour from hell) as such, we cannot sell our house at present – no one wants it without a hefty discount; so on we plod! We have a mortgage currently £162,000 at 2% +Base rate and its interest only. Me and my DH both work full time on decent incomes so this leave a lot of spare cash for ‘overpayments’.

At present our overpayments go into a savings account and there they will accumulate until someone offers us near asking price for our house. Until we have finished our mediation with the previous vendors, this is our only route to ever moving out of there!

So thats the house background. Now onto us, we are a family of 3, Me, DH and Moose (who is just over 1!)

We already have a pretty strict budget with the above in mind but are always looking at ways where we can save a £ or two! I have quite an active mind so while all this is going on, I need something to keep me busy (as if being a full time worker and a mum and housewife doesn’t keep me busy enough!) so this is my diary for my random ramblings, moans, savings and cutbacks. I’m sure you will get to know us well pretty soon as we put away the pennies to help us move on with our lives!

So our starting point is our savings so far, which is £5,325.31! (built up over the past year and a bit while i was on maternity leave and now while im back at work!)
Current Mortgage balance - £363,785.35/£420,000 (highest point Oct 2022).

and we cancelled our sky subscription/broadband yesterday and we are joining talk talk on a much cheaper package.

they are allowing us to pay our line rental up front for £114 which works out £9.50 a month reduced from the usual £14.95! a saving on our current BT line rental of £76.20 a year!

You sound as though you're on the right path!

I empathise with you about the neighbours - I have them on both sides, but I don't think that its quite as bad as your situation.

The one side just doesn't talk to us any longer which is fine, and the other side have got a little better since our last conversation!

Hi cb4fwh. thanks for popping in!

Sorry to hear u have neighbour troubles! if only we were neighbours, then we would understand each other ;)

mine is just awful! if only we could just get our offer we need on our house and we could move on but here hoping the savings come together and we can get away from him :)

I aspire to have a detached house one day with no neighbours ;)

I've had the neighbours from hell ... You wouldn't believe half the stuff we had to put up with ... Got that bad that I insisted next house we buy was a detached with more than wheelie bin space between us... We bought it, now we have new idiot neighbours ( police involved due to their behaviour) the list goes in and on with these ones too ... But they are still better than the ones we had before

    Good luck on your journey

afternoon everyone. hope all is well.

DH got some news of a bonus from work today which is nice and unexpected, he is putting £1,000 in the kitty and keepiong the rest to treat us.

I am working overtime this weekend again and also looking into changing the house ins over to get the cash back.

after a chat with DH we are joining forces to aim for £1,750 a month into the savings! a challenge but not impossible. its £250 more than we currently save on our tight budget so we will see how that goes!

Ok, I take it back. I thought that I had idiot neighbours, but there are certainly no asbos involved!

Oh dear, sympathy from me with regard to the idiot neighbours! I just have to deal with noisy ones and although I'm not selling yet I've got a plan to save up as much as possible to buy a small holding in the middle of no where!!
