Is there any benefit to being the first to review something? My main area of expertise is sportswear, sports gadgets and sports nutrition and I'm finding that there are no reviews of many of the items I thought I might review in future.
There are 2 ways it could be beneficial to write a first review...
1) If it has a gold diamond icon. You will get a bonus for writing these reviews. They are known as Most Wanted.
2) If there is a competition on. Certain categories every month enter you in a 'first review' draw where they award 20 users who have written first reviews in selected categories a prize of £2.50.
But usually, no. Don't let it stop you though. I write first reviews all the time.0 -

I've already added a few people from this thread, if anyone wants to add me I have the same username on DooYoo
Welcome! And welcome to the other newbies0 -
Mine is Tolteca without the 87.
But with the same cat icon.0 -
Hi
I hope you don't mind me joining you all. I'd read through your thread and decided to sign up, although when I went to join it seems I had already done it at some point I just hadn't got round to doing anything about any of it.
I've been on tonight and written a couple of reviews. Just picked a couple of things that I use regularly and like so it was easy really. Well saying that they might be rubbish for other people to read
Anyway, I'm going to go through some names on here and add some friends. If anyone wants to add me I've used the same name as I have on here with a little jFeedback as to how dire my reviews are and where I can improve appreciated too.

Don't worry, everyone's first reviews are kind of bad, unless you've had experience on other sites... Just read loads of reviews, especially crowned ones, and take constructive criticism into account if it is given to you.
And have fun...
Tolteca, does your name have anything to do with the Toltecs?0 -

welcome to the site - feedback from me (and only my opinion) some good opinion in the reviews but you first is hard to read as not in paragraphs - I tend to not get to the end of reviews that are hard to read as I've read quite a lot on the site.....so anything not easily laid out, or overlong or riddled with typos I struggle with (you haven't done either of the latter two things so all good)
also read a few reviews in the category you are going to write in, it will help - I find beauty reviews really hard - for shower stuff etc some idea of how many nasties in it is quite helpful sometimes, ---- you haven't described the bottle in nauseating detail which is a definite plus in my book
Nice to see lots of new members on the site - I am worried a few people will be disappointed (not particularly aimed at anyone here) as some people have plunged straight in and then are totally ignoring constructive criticism when their reviews are not good quality enough for dooyoo to pay out on in my experience - ie hitting SU consistently.0 -
OK, I've signed up, read a few reviews (by you lot, some of which are very entertaining by the way), rated your reviews and added a load of you to my 'circle of friends' even though I don't really know what that is yet. I may not be able to look at it again until the weekend but I'm starting to come up with a list in my head of the products I can write good reviews on.Challenge: Make £2024 in 2024

@julie2710 I have just read your two reviews up. Like azana said - paragraphs are good. Some people seem to go by a template like this:
Opening paragraph - why did you buy it?
Description of the product.
Good points
Bad points
Closing paragraph - would you buy again?
As you read more you will see what points people find it necessary to include in a review... Some people like to add a paragraph about the company or the manufacturer... Other people will compare it to similar products they have used. As long as you include key information you think a customer would like to know, including your own experience, you will do a fine job.
edit: meant, necessary, not unnecessary... oops0 -
Paragraphs are everyone's friend. It really makes a difference in readability.
My alias is Toltec related. I saw some great sites in Central and South America, but there were a lot of Maya's when I went hunting for a handle and I thought the Toltecs don't get enough respect, so I co-opted them.
And my favourite Colombian sites don't lend to a good handle.
Re first reviews, I've done a couple. This afternoon's Death to the Daleks is one. Initial rates seem to have more to do with how busy or not the site is one the day, but when there is only one review for a product, rates and views can mount up a bit more over time, I think.0 -
Thank you for the constructive criticism. I'm sort of kicking myself about the paragraphs or lack of them in my first review! I'm the same as far as reading big blocks of writing goes. I think I just got carried away
I'm liking the idea of the structure miwa. I'll definitely keep that in mind next review I write. May try another couple tomorrow. The car has to go for an MOT so I will be sat around for an hour or so.
