I did post that :) I also posted them a message on Facebook about 3am when I noticed it :)

yeah, sorry meant to say that I thought that the same as you, and thanks for the mention re crowns - I don't have many recent ones though - there's always "crown of the day" announcements on community pages that haybel19 could look at I suppose

Thank you. Wanted to read some crowned reviews to get ideas on how I can improve.

Seems like the relevant sections aren't working, but many guides have Crowns.

    http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/community/_page/advice_guides/

Also, I found reading about Crowns on Dooyoo really helpful.

    http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/discussion/dooyoo-crowns/reviews/

There are also relevant revs in certain sections, like "How to write a great book review" (relevant at the moment):

    http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/search/speakers-corner/how+to+write+a+good+book+review/

(That's the list of all of them.)

To summarise what I have learnt from those links above, which I really think you should read...:
    • Length: longer revs seem to get crowns. If you know a lot about a product, it shouldn't be a problem, as you will naturally write a longer rev.
    • Detail: be detailed, but not overly so. You don't have to pad out a rev with unnecessary back-story or information. Describe the product, what it does, how useful it is, and what you think. Maybe a bit about the company/author/director/etc but not their whole life story.
    • Catchy title: more important than you think.
    • Never skip the last sections at the bottom - advantages, disadvantages and summary.
    • Lots of people argue that you can post at a certain time or day to increase chances of crowns, but most of this is conjecture. Just rate a lot to make sure plenty of people can get the chance to read and nominate your rev.

In my opinion Dooyoo like new people who post crown-worthy revs, and reward them with Crown of the Day etc. Read loads and good luck. :)

Very useful info there Miwa, defo agree about the too much info. Some reviews do seem to go into minute detail which, and I sure I'm not the only one, I find boring to read and unnecessary. I would much rather read a review which tells me something about the product which I can't find on the product box or manufacturers website - like what it's like to actual use the product.

I do think I have trouble coming up with titles, I found writing the reviews so far not too difficult but I don't think my titles are catchy enough.

I find song titles make good ones. If they fit of course.

Never thought of that, next time I write a review I see if I can find one that fits.

As far as crowns go it goes in cycles - shorter reviews do well at times. Personally I really like more concise reviews and if I see one I do nominate it, if loads of opinion. I'm not likely to nominate anything which is poorly spelled and personally (and just personally) I hate any review with the history of the company, a long description of the packaging and also I dislike reviews full of the personal life of the reviewer - a little background is fine but I don't want to read about someone's trip to the shops. I dislike reviews that are essays - 3000 words to me is totally OTT

I think any writing which seems "fresh" always gets me nomming - I never say if I have, as personally I don't like those "nomm'd" comments in the comment boxes, as it may cause upset if dooyoo don't agree. Crowns can be a bit random, I'd say, some of my better reviews haven't crowned but then some I didn't expect to did. Sometimes it can depend on the category too, they seem to give crowns more in some categories than others and it depends how active the guide in that area is as, despite what Katie said, I do still wonder if guide nominations carry more weight, I think they probably do.
  • Well Ive done my first review and had a little look around the site.

Bit confused to be honest at the minute but Im sure it will all fall into place over time.

No doubt I will be back here at some point with questions. :D

Just reviewed your review Kantankrus Mare and added you to my circle.

I gave it a useful as I thought it could do with a little more info on the product, but other than that it was good. Funnily enough my first review was of the 5780 epilator.
