Wow. Bet their employer would be delighted to find they churn reviews whilst being paid to look after two kids...that's a sackable offence I would have thought I'd be fuming... Lucky nothing happened to the kids whilst they were writing reviews all day, by their own admission.
I think if you don't churn it's pretty hard to make much money, I have written more for me than is usual today as confined to bed, but think you can make small amounts not loads now the tiers have changed....used to be fifty pence per review. Unless you are prepared to write about every perfume you have, or haven't used in a short space of time it's not maintainable.....some people right now on there are producing rather unbelievable reviews ...not meaning anyone here... Experience tells me it catches up on them in the end
I think it is better to get excited by crowns and treat the site as fun, like many on this thread do, not see it as a cash cow, maybe that explains why I am not the best of earners tho!0 -
Confined to bed? Nothing serious I hope.
I agree, a lot of people use it as a cash cow, churning reviews, but if Dooyoo continues to pay for them presumably they are getting something back via ads or affiliate links. I enjoy reading older reviews about dooyoo - criticism or suggestions or what have you - I read an older one from 2001 which was quite illuminating, entitled "who is dooyoo really for?" It had some good points - dooyoo get paid for ads and affiliate links, reviewers get paid for reviews and reads, so where is the incentive that for the consumer gets truthful and high quality reviews to read? A bit alarmist maybe, but food for thought.0 -
Nail on head miwa
hopefully though some us will keep on writing for consumers rather than peers.... The quality of reviews goes up and down and sometimes amazon reviews are more useful. A former guide pliplop wrote fab reviews but also understood how it all worked perfectly, if you are interested worth reading his discussion pieces, he has moved on to writing for more professional us sites now I think...
Re being confined it's just tonsillitis but has been really nasty, hopefully recovering, have to as have two kids to occupy tomorrow!0 -
I am sure you've tried this already but chamomile tea mixed with lemon and honey is an old remedy for tonsillitis - very calming as well. Tonsillitis can be pretty nasty... take care of yourself.
I think Ciao is a bit more consumer minded, but frankly it is a pain to navigate and the payment system is confusing - even more so now they have excluded a lot of categories from Diamonds - and there is less money in it than DY to be frank. But I am just happy to get paid for things I enjoy reviewing, like books and DVDs! Sometimes I wonder why DY continue to pay for those kind of categories (not to mention dooyoo lounge), even if it so little compared to other products but best not to look a gift horse in the mouth............................0 -
Thanks, haven't tried the tea but I'm useless and don't drink any hot drinks! It has been really horrible but is subsiding.
Interesting re ciao..... I don't bother there any more as I find it clique ridden and abuse is rife..... You realise both sites are owned by the same company now? Will be interesting to see long term if they allOw cross posting.... Some people earn relatively big on ciao but you have to be prepared to E all your mates and write long reviews is my impression, even if a shorter one would help a consumer more. I prefer dooyoo when I can be bothered at all, after amazon who are being very good to me of late0 -
I've been thinking about the two sites being owned by the company for some time now. They are, in most cases, paying twice for the same reviews. I thought it might have changed by now but obviously hasn't apart from dooyoo saying that most wanted products must be exclusive to dooyoo for the bonus miles. Surely it would be better for them financially to stop cross posting altogether.Making money for christmas 2012:santa2:0 -
How can you not drink hot drinks? You must survive on a diet of Dextrose and cocaine if you forfeit caffeine... especially with kids... I only have my niece 1 day a week and I get so run down, I swear I feel like I've run a marathon afterwards. But I do have fibromyalgia...
I was aware of Ciao's problems - can't avoid seeing the spam, DY has problems with Print24 as well though - but I wasn't aware of how bad it was honestly. It's surprising the site allows 'clique cartels'*... and I have felt for a long time shorter reviews are terribly underrated. As a consumer myself I want to read several reviews to compare and contrast, not necessarily the shorter the better, but I don't want to spend reading for half an hour about some tangentially related story or unnecessary information added to pad a review out. Ciao used to have a shorter review competition didn't they? It would be nice if DY had some kind of express review competition seeing as they don't pay for them.
What I do like about Ciao is the premium fund - I feel like there is more opportunity to earn potentially, as with Dooyoo you have your rates and your crowns, and if you don't get a crown and no one seems to be rating you anymore, that's it for that review, whereas on Ciao as long as you get some exceptionals you could be in for a bit of money (on top of the rates) from the PF next month. But I don't earn as much with Ciao even with PF - again, I just feel lucky I am allowed to get an extra fiver a month from x-posting there - not really bothered about anything else.
