I don't have any mortgage/rent to pay, but two of us live perfectly well on about £900 per month.

Myself and my DH manage pretty well on less than £1200 per month between us. This includes our mortgage and house insurance, all bills (though we don't have to pay council tax), season train tickets for us both, holidays, clothes/nice meals out as and when we want/need them and looking after 4 expensive pets (who cost almost as much in food as we do!).

And we could cut back absolutely loads as well if we had to.

The only reason I ask is someone said graduates expect the earth when they graduate in salary terms. But I do not think expecting to earn 15 000 a year is really anything more than just about enough to live on.

I have no personal hope of living on my own with what the job I have an interview for pays. It will only work out at just over 300 pound a month.

I personally think 15k is too much for most graduates to expect to earn straight away, and the only time it would be not enough to comfortably live off is if you have extremely high living costs (reduce them), lots of debt (get to the DFW board!) or live in a very expensive area

15k is only about 1000 a month after tax, so aimming for 15k is not a big target.

Do not worry I can not get anywhere near any job earning more than about 3k a year. So I am at no risk of disproving your theory.

Hence why I said if I moved north, i could asily cut my bills in half and have a bigger place.

    Now there's an idea :D:D:D

My brother graduated and refused to get a job for two years, as 'he wasn't paid enough'. he then bit the bullet, and took on a job paying 12k, three years later he's on 25k. He's always telling others not to make the same mistake as him.

That is what I am doing and that is why I am going for a job that is only 12 hours a week and involves to 9 pm on Sunday Night. It is not ideal job but it seems the only one I can have a chance of getting.

    Go for it.
But remember the Labour Market is tight, very tight.

Once you apply for some jobs, deal with some employers/agencies, see what the competition is, you'll really know what to expect.

    Maybe even £16-£20K.
