How much to live on?

What do you judge to be a high enough wage for a single person to live on?
I see no way that you can lived on less that 1000 pounds a month if you include rent, bills, food, clothes, travel. So I think as a ball park figure you need to earn 15000 a year before tax.

Depends, obviously, and you know it.
How much are you getting paid for doing your database questionnaire(?) job? Can you live on it? Does that answer your question?0 -
Phil I remember you posting exactly the same thread a few months ago. Everyone went to great lengths to answer your questions then.
Inflation hasn't affected living costs that much in the last 6 months! :rolleyes:0 -
You don't get far on £1000 a month now. Council tax takes £130 of it instantly, so your down to £870. Rent? I can only go on rental prices down here, £600 for a 2 bed house, £270 left. Electric? £50 a month, water? £30 a month....£190 left.
Then you have the 'luxuries' TV licence, £11, Broadband, £15, telephone Line rental only, £11, £153 left.
Shopping. Even the biggest miser in the world will need £15 a week for groceries, including household items.
£93 left.
Run a car? At this point, your screwed.0 -
I guess a lot depends on what your fixed expenses are. Living with your parents is a lot cheaper than renting a flat by yourself. Also geograpical location etc.
My fixed costs (mortgage, utility bills, insurance etc) plus other costs (food, entertainment etc) come to just over 1000 per month.
Some of those could be trimmed down if need be (Sky TV, alcohol etc) so if push came to shove, I could survive on about £750 per month).
But that's just me!0 -

Bloody hell mate. You wanna get yourself over to the DFW board. A single person shouldn't be paying more than £30 a month tops on leccy! Change suppliers and go through Quidco!
As for food, people feed themselves good nosh for £50 a month. That includes all household products!
But people, Phil has already had these questions answered before!0 -
My fixed costs are currently <gets calculator out> £1680
Thats mortgage / rent, council tax, car tax (x2), electric, water, sky, broadband, telephone, mobile, food, petrol, insurance for car, insurance for house.
And I don't have car loans to service either, so it's quite scary really.
Thats living single in a small, 2 bed house. Thats not including recreational spending, clothes, lunches when out, car parking costs, all the usual things you buy.0 -
