Are you sure, or is this just another urban myth - similar to the 'If a man rings your mobile and says he needs to test the line, Don't press #2*#4, because he will then have control over your eternal soul'
Where did you find this out - Did you get a text from Orange, or was it 'someone I know', or did you read it on the internet??
does it say this in the Orange website??
Just looking to make sure it's right before we tell 50 thousand people, who will then tell 500k people etc.0 -

Ive just rung about 5 different numbers that I use and the pre-recorded message from Orange is that you will be charged premium rates so I suggest we tell as many people as we can. Try ringing one yourself.0 -

At least no-one will be charged a premium rate without knowing about it.
Are 07744 numbers 'normal mobile phone numbers' or are they 'information lines' etc? They can't be 'normal' as it would be very unfair on the owners.0 -
Guys,
For rumours/news like this can you please check the orange website and include a link to where it explains these are special charges.
If it doesn't and you get charged by them then ring up and them to show you where in your contract it says this isn't a mobile number. Then remind them that the contract says you agree to pay all charges as listed - no special listing no special treatment.
It worked for me when O2 tried it on with a weird chare.

Try reading the other threads about it if you think it is a rumour0

I agree with you. I myself am using O2 happily with this number, but I'm very sure that T mobile and O2 will also start charging for this number soon. Orange found out, and they started charging. Why on earth will O2 and T mobile not do the same? its just a matter of time. and especially with all these damn newbies phoning O2 every minute asking if this number is included, when they KNOW very WELL it IS, of course O2 will click on!
Is a shame really.0 -

Orange say these numbers are being used in a different way. Ofcom know they are used for obtaining international calls, without me asking. They confirm what Orange say, that they are not obliged to allow this use.
If you read Simply-Fone's remarks elsewhere, they say it would be inappropriate for them to comment on changes that operators make in accordance with their T&CSimply-fone provides the service which is available from all mobile networks, however the charging policy for these calls is a matter for the network operator, the service provider and the caller.
The network operators have the discretion to set the policy for charging for any calls and these policies vary by network operator, service provider and sometimes by tariff plan.
In addition the network operators vary their charging policies from time to time. It is neither possible nor appropriate for Simply-fone to advise callers on the charging policy of the mobile operators.0
