Thanks for your help. A freesat box does work very well with the TV. Great site comes up trumps again.

  • We currently have sky and have downgraded to minimum package for £6 to keep the pause/record features.

Im not techy at all but was wondering if there was an alternative which has those features + atlantic, movies, documentaries etc?

Now tv is very good same on demand viewing or very close to it as you get on sky . 4 devices per account can be apps on phone or tablet . The down side is you have no record so you have to watch in the time limits set by now tv iplayer etc . But its £7 per month and is you get a chrome cast theres 3 months free .

I am thinking of cancelling my Sky package, as I don't watch many of the channels. However, I don't have a working TV aerial. If I cancel Sky will the box work on Freeview or would I need a new aerial?

It sort of works. Remove the card and see what you get.

I lost Channel 5 which you may consider important.

If you're trying to save money it's cheapest to keep the box. However, if you want a box with a EPG that isn't filled with loads of channels you can't watch which trust me gets very frustrating then you might want to consider buying a replacement box which isn't a Sky box.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I cancelled my Sky a few months ago. As I have all the equipment already, such as the satelite dish, it still works as a FreeSat (sort of, not all the channels that FreeSat offer). I cannot record or live pause anymore, but this is something I am getting over. I also pay for Now TV (uses the internet not a dish) - the kids have boxes and I watch the Sky channels and latest programs on my iPad instead. Much cheaper at £6.99 a month.
  • Hi.

it won't work with freeview, that works with an aerial and set top box, but you will still get the free channels via freesat.

I hadn't realised they still had cards in! (Bit of a technophobe!) Will try it but I definitely want Channel 5.

I've had countless aerials but they keep getting blown down. Just been on the Sky website and tried to work out which channels I would lose if I downgrade my package but they don't make it easy.

I had completely forgotten that I wouldn't be able to record or live pause. Doh! Presumably you would also lose Catch up TV?
