Bit of a pedant aren't we, the point is stop paying Sky a subscription you still can view 'free to air' channels but would not have PVR functions, freeview, freesat, whatever.

It can be important as the channel line up differs so what might suit one will not suit another.

The important point in threads like this and the ones to follow is that no one needs Sky just to watch TV, but cord cutting seems to be a difficult thing, when in fact it isn't. It always pays to buy an independent Freeview or Freesat box because after twelve months ex-Sky users make the money back.

Believe in better...Buy your own box.

We got rid of Sky at the start of the year and have never missed it

We bought a Panasonic Freeview box, and it does all the recording and pausing and rewinding live TV

I wish we'd stopped Sky years ago

Thank you for your replies. I'm really not overly bothered about channels, it's just the ability to record that I'd miss. Will look carefully at all the options you've suggested.

I recently renewed my sky subscription.(Phone, Broadband and the free to air channels). As part of my new deal, Sky allowed me to keep the record and the catch up facilities. Working well so far, except for Demand5.

...fine if you watch entertainment channels ....but BT & SKY have got us sports nuts by the short and curlies, virtually no sport on "terrestrial" now, which is why I spend a few hours every year negotiating hard with them to get the best possible deal:T

I've just bought one and cancelled Sky (£33/month saved) so it's paid for in 3 months.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Hi all, I've been a Sky customer for about 6 years and have seen my bill creep up and up. I had a bit of a  moment when I checked what I paid for last month and it was £92!! Coming up to £50 of that is the tv package, we have entertainment + and the movies package (this irks me, I don't watch films but my OH does so it's only fair).

I had a quick peek at NOWTV but couldn't make head nor tail of it :o We watch quite a few programmes on the discovery channel and would like to try and find something that would include that, if at all possible??

As much as it pains me, I have to keep my internet as I am currently studying which, in turn, means I have to keep the landline that is very, very rarely used. Being rural I have the choice of Sky or BT for these, no other company covers my area (and my BB is £17pm because of this ) and both are equally as expensive.

Any advice on what to look at to save me the £50 odd pm??

    TIA

Are you out of contract with SKY if not factor in what it will cost to pay of the contracts .

Phone them and tell them you're leaving. Tell them you can make do with Freeview (whether you can or not!) and find a cheap broadband deal on Martin's site to tell them you're going to move to.
