You do realise they won't be paid for any period of strike? Essentially a 'sanction'?

Tongue in cheek remark, see second post regarding Toryland, as a union member fully aware of the personal cost of industrial action

Perhaps if they put up a bit of a fight at how the Government are treating those on JSA, they might get a bit of sympathy. For instance someone losing a month's money for a single missed appointment is pathetic. But these staff seem happy to sanction people without a second thought.

Well it won't be long before the axe begins to fall on them, and I doubt many who have recently had dealings with them, will care.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Don't think they give a damn about their thoughts TBH. Go home, forget about work, they rely on fellow public sectors opinions, not clients. Why do you think they'd be bothered one way or another about what they think, makes no sense.

You hit the nail on the head. job centre staff do not give any help they sanction the ones who want to work and do nothing about the work-shy, or as i call them 'the untouchables'. I discovered that they can refer you to companies who are looking to hire on work trial basis, jsa staff would get a finders fee/bonus if you get taken on, i was forced into attending an interview but the job wasn't for me so jsa staff didn't make a penny out of me. Never again!

in recent weeks all i have seen them do is stand around or sit around doing nothing but chatting to each other when there are scores of people waiting to be seen its shocking.

Their cushy life is about to end by the looks of it, maybe they will start working faster and do a good job wherever they move on to.

Sanction the Lot of em! :Tthey seem to be very quick to do so if claimants don't fulfil their obligations. It's an insult to those who have to sign on every week and long for a job.

It's not the jobcentre staff to blame - they are just trying to do a job based on the rules that the government, that we the people put in power, have told them to enforce.

If you don't like what is happening - tell them that are making it happen - the politicians.

A civil servant isn't supposed to have any feelings about anything one way or another when dealing with a member of the public.

The civil service does nothing more than the administration of the rules and regulations that the ministers dictate.

Don't make out that the civil servant is the one responsible he/she is the fall guy in all of this.

Civil Service unions have a long history of campaigning against Draconian benefit rules and cuts.

And can those on JSA not stand up for themselves and fight their own corner? You make a lot of assumptions that Civil Servants are somehow different from other people. There are Civil Servants earning the equivalent salary of minimum wage that rely on tax credits just like others. They might live in social housing or private rented accommodation and are affected by the benefit changes just like everyone else.

  • The JSA staff are victims of this government as are those who have lost their jobs. 760,000 public sector workers have lost their jobs since this government came to power. I have a friend who was laid off from the JSA as were many others. As in many other work places fewer staff are doing more work for in real terms less money.

The unions might do, but you can't really expect the local JC+ staff to get involved directly with the public.
