pop into the john lewis, view the 2 against the newest one and see about screen size, the you can either go for a cheaper model (2) if you're happy, or go for the dearer one if you really do notice the difference.

Decide about the 3G or not, then bob's your uncle!

I think your right, I think the hour bus trip to John Lewis in Newcastle will be worth my while and then hopefully get the advice I need. Thanks

I'd suggest you look for a decent case, but unless you have money to spare, avoid buying one off the shelf at john lewis. Off the shelf cases are dear, and you'll be better working out what type of case you want first.

You can get survivor typed cases, but these do add bulk and weight, but should give it pretty decent protection.
You can then get what are shells, which will cover the back, but not really add much protection wise.
Phone styled pouches, or wanna be leather typed flip cases. These flip cases can be a good buy as they cover front, back, and often include a way to make a stand for it too, but rarely offer the protection like Survivor cases.

Also look on ebay if you buy on ebay, and get a screen protector fitted. I know it's good screens and shouldn't be necessary, but i'd rather have them on and not worry about any potential scratches, possible or not :D

I'd recommend personally the mini, as it's a nice compromise on size, but it's lighter than the full size ones, and more easy to carry around (for me as a woman with a handbag) But which ever one you get, you'll be pleased with it. BUT if you're comparing the ipad 2, and ipad 4 (forget about the 3 one, it was a mistake) make sure to listen to something, because iirc the ipad 2 has only one speaker, the mini (and 4 again if i recall correctly) have two speakers and it really does make a difference between my ipad 2 and the mini i replaced it with.

Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/ and download itunes because you will be using it with it, and you will have to download it. So if you do that first before you get it, you'll not have to wait once you're got it out of the box :D:D

Typing this on an iPad 2, misses got an iPad Mini and it does everything as good and is as readable. If I were choosing today it would be the Mini this time, so light to hand hold for extended periods.

If you love reading, go for the Ipad Mini. Lots of free books available, plus any book you choose can be downloaded in seconds.

I download books to the kindle app, and read at leisure. If I want to surf the net or read emails, all on the same device.

Not as big as its big brothers, it's a nifty little gizmo.

    Good luck choosing.
