I'm also assuming only "worthy" books count? No good for the image having shelves full of Mills & Boon presumably? :rotfl:
No, no Mills & Boon on our shelves ...not even the two that I wrote (way back in the 60s, pulped long, long ago :rotfl:) I grew up in a family that loved books, I read everything that I could and then married someone the same, so of course, our family grew to love books too. Some books are read once, then passed on, others are loved and cherished and returned to, time after time.
Oh - and btw my new tv is a massive 27" samsung - and it fits nicely on top of my bookcase!
I read my kindle in bed - far easier to hold that now rather than a large book (arthritis in my hands) - but I still prefer the feel and smell of books!0 -

I don't re-read fiction books really, once I remember what is going to happen I can't be bothered to read them again, which is why I now use my library, I get through a book a week now that the children are older, if I do buy them they go on ebay once they're finished.
I don't re-watch DVD's either, its a bit of a bone of contention between me & DH, he loves a DVD, buys loads and re-watches them, which is fine, but please don't buy me one as a present because I'll only watch it once, and they take up too much room!
My DD on the other hand reads her books over and over again, her bedroom is full to the brim.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I don't have any books in my living room, as like some other folk I'm lucky enough to have a room to use as a library. I love it - it has a squashy sofa and a small table for a cuppa and multiple bookcases (and room to expand as needed). I don't hoard all my books - if it's trashy fiction I'll read it once than get rid of it, but anything I'm likely to reread I'll keep. Travel, history, photography books etc all get kept. OH has wanted to buy me a Kindle for the past 3 years and I've said no.
I've got everything in some semblance of order (though it's not quite a dewey decimal system!). Is anyone else particular about filing their books in particular places?0 -

About once a year or so I have a sort of 'episode' where I obsessively arrange my books and DVDs into alphabetical order. I never keep them that way though, don't know why I bother really...0 -
Fair enough guys, obviously many of you genuinely love your book collections. I still think that for some people an arrangement of tastefully displayed books is a status symbol, to make them appear interesting and erudite, but I would not dream of suggesting that applies to anyone on here!
Reminds me of the joke about the little boy who was asked by his granny if he'd like a book for his birthday, and replied "no thanks gran, I've already got one" :rotfl:.
Sorry for thread digression too. It's way past my bedtime (and OH objects to the bedside light on when he's trying to sleep, so no chance of reading there!),
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I'm a terrible book hoarder...i can't read through them quick enough. My mum has very similar taste in books so she buys them from charity shops then brings them all round to me when she's done with them. Then i take them back to the charity shops. Mum is far more organised, she has notebooks of every book she's read in the past 10 years or so :eek:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I am indeed interesting and erudite, but nobody knows, because our books are shut away in the librarrrary in our ex-council house
We don't have a coffee table with which to display our educational tomes and they'd die of bordom anyway if they even glanced at themMSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -

I have my Hotel Chocolat cookbook on the shelf under my coffee table, I'm sure that counts as an educational tome, the things you can do with chocolate
(and why is it a coffee table and not a tea table?)Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Is it for your own reference - or to impress your friends though?
