Well I am THRILLED by the DM article as I knew the "good family" some years ago and know just how hard the miscarriages impacted on them and the difficulties life in general threw at them at that time and in the aftermath. I lost touch with the Mum some years ago and am so delighted everything has turned out so well. I have no doubts she's a fabulous Mum as she's a genuinely lovely person and both she and her husband are grafters and will have worked hard for everything they have .
(and they did have books when I visited their house)

I feel like I should point out that my comment was being a bit tongue-in-cheek, I don't really believe that's a rule! I think some might have taken it in a way it wasn't intended, forgot things sometimes don't translate well in text
On a serious note, I've got access to loads of books. They're in the local library.0 -
What IS this thing about book hoarding/displaying? Surely if you have read it there's really no need to hang on to it, and if you haven't read it, it doesn't prove anything other than that you own it (or have borrowed it!).
I'm also assuming only "worthy" books count? No good for the image having shelves full of Mills & Boon presumably? :rotfl:I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

As a kid I always thought it was really odd that there were no books in my best friend at junior school's house. I just assumed everyone had loads of books <shrug>
Those books ranged from classics to trashy thrillers -I read em all lolI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Tania Sullivan and her husband Mike, 40, have raised their 14-strong family without state handouts in a modest five bedroom house in Hoo, Kent
I love the fact that the Daily Mail are honest enough about what is important to their readership by praising the fact that they are not on benefits in the first line of the article.SPC #1813

I might want to read it again! Or maybe I got a few books at once and I haven't got to it yet. It does make me laugh people having certain books on display to impress people and hiding others. I'll read pretty much anything and put them all next to each other, why would I be ashamed of reading something and want to hide it?
And before you all start thinking I obviously read so much I mustn't even have a telly, there's a stack of DVDs nearly the same size as the pile of books.

A lot of ours are expensive and rare reference books that we use all the time. In fact they are vital - it's information you can't find on the internet, nor in our local library. So we don't hoard them. there are a few that many haven't been touched, but the majority of them are essential and have been invaluable, we often need the information at our fingertips, so travelling to some library the other side of the country would be difficult. A few are signed too.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -

There are some people who display their books to let people know what kind of person they are, not everybody with books in their living room is doing that though, sometimes its the only place! It was at my last flat, so everybody found out I still have my 'Horrible History' books and am a closet Dan Brown fan.
Do you never re-read a book though? I get rid of the ones I don't like but some of mine have been read about 20 times or more. There's no way I'd get rid of a book I enjoyed. Would you get rid of a DVD after you've watched it once or a CD after you've heard it?0
