All three of my adult children live with me ES, although only one earns a proper wage, DS3 is a student and DS1 suffers from some issues.
It's lucky for them that we do house and feed them. I do think they have learnt frugal living from us though, as the one who earns and the student have savings.

Happy Sunday
We finally have snow, lots of it! It's been snowing steadily since first thing this morning and the sky is full of it. It wasn't settling much at first but it started coming down in thicker flakes and now our road is completely covered over. Took the dog out for a walk up to the cashpoint and got soaked. No plans to brave the park today as it's a steep slope down to it and I'm scared of slipping.
Just done finances and at the end of week 1 here are the results:
Groceries £87.52/£90.00 £2.48 underspend which has gone to VSP - underspend woo hoo
Other spends £60.00/£80.00 - £20 underspend which has gone to dining room fund - another underspend
Holiday balance has been paid off this week. Now need to save up for spending which will be fairly high as we're in a villa so no meals/drinks included, plus the scooter hire, taxis to and from airport and spends in airport/on plane - would like to save £900 to cover this.
VSP £106.40
MSP £36.00 - this was £35.97 so shaved 3p off next week's budget to round it up, I'm sure I'll manage on 3p less.
Dining room fund £80.00
Emergency fund £1685.31 - waiting for payday to add to this
Credit card £154.27 - to be cleared on payday
Have been to the cashpoint and withdrawn £10 cash for top up food shop in the week, £10 cash each for me and Mr SA, £10 cash for next Saturday and £10 for lunch out on Wednesday with work team.
Mr SA has informed me he has £60 saved out of his weekly £10. He only really goes out to have his hair cut every 3 weeks so hardly spends anything. He's saving it to take on holiday apparently which has reminded me maybe that's what my savings pot should go on as I always see a nice handbag, top, etc that you don't see in the UK but don't like to take it out of the holiday spending money. I'm going to suggest to Mr SA that maybe he should put aside some of his stash to save for a new shaver.
Need to do meal plan for next week now. Will be back later.
Have a fab day folksI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Sleeting/snowing here as well now this morning SA!
How annoying about the weight but I’m sure you’ll see a loss next week.
Good idea on having some extra savings to take on holiday to treat yourself. It’ll be nice to have a handbag etc that no-one will have back home!
Agree with you about Mr SA funding his shaver from his savings! Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟
Finished Emergency Fund- £10,000 April 2017

The snow was short-lived and turned to rain. Ended up taking the dog on the park but got soaked yet again.
DD's "friend" is here and I've actually seen him properly this time. Typical I'd just got back from the park soaking wet and had changed into my nightie and dressing gown.
Today was NSD 6
Meal plan for the week done:
Breakfast: porridge
Lunches will be home made carrot and lentil soup apart from Wednesday when the work team are going out for lunch.
Snacks: WW snack bars, crispbread and cottage cheese, fruit.
Dinners:
Sunday: Mustard glazed salmon with green lentils, caramelised onions and kale
Monday: Butternut squash and red pepper risotto and veg
Tuesday: Mexican rice, peppers, mushrooms, onion and prawns (using up some packet rice been in the cupboard ages)
Wednesday: Veg ragu with boodles (will need to go for something that's zero points after going out for lunch)
Thursday: stir fry using up any left over veg
Friday: salmon and veg
Aiming for 20k steps a day, 3 gym sessions and 3 AFDs. Hoping to shift that half a pound this week, ideally more.
Budget wise aiming to beat the £2.48 underspend from groceries and put away some more towards dining room.
Here's to a good week everyone :beer:I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -

He looks alright Beanie, dark hair and a bit of a moustache, I know his name is Nathan as there's a birthday card in her room "all my love Nathan". I think it's getting to the stage where she might actually introduce him to us. Another way in which she's just like her dad for secrecy - Mr SA "forgot" to tell his parents we were having DS. They found out the day I gave birth. They were shocked to say the least, I was fuming with him and so was my mum. I used to say to him why don't we go to see them and he reckoned they were always out! More than anything his mum was upset because she could've started knitting.
Mr SA is being annoying tonight - we're watching Dancing on Ice on ITV plus 1 and every ad break he switches to the snooker then forgets which channel we're on, then by the time he finds it again the ads are back onI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Mr SA sounds a menace with the remote....my dh is a pain if I try and watch any of shows like dancing on ice - he's not keen on them and spends the whole time doing his own running commentary - "it's a fix" "they're faking it" etc so I just watch on catch up.....it's going to cramp my style when I go back to work next month....
It's hard for your ds and partner - I certainly wouldn't want to be starting again.....although we bought our 1st house in the 70s - a little terrace for about 8 grand.....it felt like the biggest debt in the world at that time only took the mans wage into account when giving mortgage and refused to let us have a mortgage for any longer than 15 years.....and we'd had to save with that building society for at least a year before we could even apply for a mortgage- my mum in law had always been with them and went in to vouch for us :rotfl::rotfl: how some things have changed.....but the thought of starting out again :eek:January spends - £587.580 -
Exciting news re DD and the mystery man... excited to hear how this progresses :rotfl:.
OMG to Mr SA not telling his parents about DS  xxMummytogirls x0 -
The "friend" is here again! I've noticed they never go out though. It's weird.
The snow had completely gone by this morning thank goodness, so safe to walk to work, was worried about slipping.
Lunchtime gym session, 20,615 steps and AFD 7. Low spend day of £3.69 in Lidl for a few bits.
That's Monday in the bagI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
