  • Oh Hun I'm devastated for you both. I hope you are BOTH ok after your ordeal.

I think it's time to shout and stamp your feet at the hospital until you get the answers and help you deserve.

A sicknote sounds the right way to go just now Xx

Oh SA, so sorry to hear about today's traumatic events.

Do you get paid whilst you're off sick? if yes, then definitely get your GP to sign you off for a while.

I agree with Lucky that you need to create a huge fuss in order to get the support you both need. It's a shame these things don't appear without a fight, but that's the way it is, so get those boxing gloves out! I remember getting very emotional on the phone to the local council many years ago in order to ensure a stairlift was installed pdq for my father - saying if they didn't install it right away then he wouldn't be alive to use it. It was in within a week.

It's easier to make a fuss for other people - and Mr SA really needs all the (external) support he can get. (His support from you couldn't be better)
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

SA that is just awful. for you and him. I hope he hasn't come to any harm.
Its clear he is not fit for discharge. With the best will in the world you can not provide the level of support he needs just now.

Sun.A I am so sorry to read of MrSA's accident - thank goodness you were still at home when he fell!

Being realistic, the next step is now an honest [private] chat with MrSA's consultant - after he's seen the CT scan.

Trust your instincts; it's difficult because of course MrSA would rather be at home with you and DD, but you know in your heart that your house is not really suitable for him as he is now..

Don't blame the hospital staff for letting him try some time at home; the boost to MrSA's mental state would have been well worth it, had he managed to avoid falling down the stairs - damn. :(

    (((Hugs))).

You and MrSA will be in my thoughts all day; I so wish we could swap my disabled-friendly bungalow for your house, but alas the magic wand to achieve that doesn't exist.. :o

ETA: Thinking about your transport issues; if you always use the same taxi firm, it could be worth talking to the boss - explain your situation, that you are going to need regular taxi trips, and see if you can get a discount (my taxi driver mate has two clients in a similar position, they get about 30% off - a deal like that would help your purse).

Thank you everyone - it's wonderful to have this online support

Not seen Mr SA today yet but he has rung to say he has been sick everywhere and has headache. He has run out of all the clothes I took him in yesterday as he is also spilling his drinks. He is now back to using beakers and a straw. He says the cups keep falling out of his hand. Hope this isn't a result of the bang to the head yesterday. Will be going to see him shortly so hope to find him in better condition than he sounds.

Had a phone call today from an Occupational Therapist who wants me to let her know when he is next discharged so everything can be put in place to stop another fall. Her team will arrange for grab rails or whatever is needed equipment-wise and there will be a care team in place. She said it's the hospital's job to ensure the patient is safe at home on discharge and this clearly hasn't happened.

As if I haven't got enough on my plate, I went into my bank account today to find nPower have taken £43 more than they arranged to take for the monthly direct debit. I had no notification of this so was shocked. Rang customer services and they will refund this amount plus another £43 as a way of apology. They don't know what has happened but I have been assured this won't happen again. Mmm!

On a lighter note, met up with some friends at lunchtime for a natter and a bite to eat. A very nice diversion.

What a week so far! And it's only Tuesday!
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
