So i have a deal from last year that gave me a basic11 24 month contract for 6 quid a month..

I get a letter from tmobile with april as the date on it. saying they are increasing to 11.36.

I have a year left and have basically had an amazing deal after various cashbacks, however tempted to leave as will be quids in. ( 1 year will have cost me £1.30 and had a free phone.

    So i think i can cancel my contract as 11 + 3.2% = 11.352
    whereas 11+ 3.3% = 11.363

i haven't contacted them yet but will just in case they increase from 6 quid - 11.36 by mistake.

Does anybody know can i keep my number if i cancel my contract as this is something i don't really want to change? AND anybody know any good deals or am i being stupid and tight?

    matt
  • Hi guys, finally got around to checking my plan. Monthly line rental = £13.22 + VAT = £15.864My increase is £0.52 which I calculate to be 3.277% Have I worked that right?
If so, then the increase is higher than the 3.2% allowed, so I should be allowed to cancel, right?

That looks right - there's also a price calculator on the T-Mobile website ( just Google T-Mobile price changes, I can't add a link as a Newbie), if you wanted to double check.

The website says to exclude any discounts, but when I checked my price increase and worked it out on my discounted monthly plan charge, it came to 3.3%... not sure if this means they have messed up the calculation too?! Even at the full monthly charge, the increase is above the 3.2% RPI rate, so good to go for cancellation :)
  • Just e-mailed Jackie O'leary about the price rise and quoting the T&C's... lets see what they come back with.

  • Hi guys, does anyone please have a link to the official site that states that RPI in March was 3.2%?

Also has anyone had any luck with their attempts to cancel? I have just received my first refusal to cancel without penalty, no reason given only to say 7.2.2.3 doesn't apply when I had clearly explained in my original e-mail that it did.

    Thanks

lukat, keep us all updated on what you do and how far you get.

2 hours wasted on the phone last week.
I haven't given up though. Will let you know for sure what the outcome is.

I had an answer from a woman at the Orange Exec Office (yes, idiots are emailing from Orange for a T-Mobile issue).

They are actually going to try and lie their way out of it, using false figures and outright deception.

    Their reply:

Not withstanding the fact that 3.23% is still in excess of the 3.2% RPI, any fool with a calculator can see that she is lying, the increase is £1.18, the charge is £36.00, the increase comes out at 3.278 which rounds to 3.3%.

Their own letter admits the increase is 3.3%.

I have emailed jackie.o'leary and Olaf.Swantee and made a complaint about the letter writer lying to me, I've asked for the matter to be dealt with by someone else as well.

Anyone wanting to add another complaint, perhaps even an OFCOM complaint, the T-Mobile terms stipulate they have to tell you when the increase is above RPI and of your right to cancel, they have breached this as well.

    From the terms

If they continue to refuse, it looks like deadlock letter or wait 8 weeks and go to CISAS, this isn't like the Orange change of terms dispute that CISAS can said was a business decision, this is a direct breach of the cancellation clause.

    Well done, very interesting development.
My increase is 3.268 % increase. Above 3.2% and close enough to 3.3% anyway.
Who do they think they are???

We got them! Their behaviour and change of terms for customers from october 2012 is an admission they can't denied our right as per the terms!!
Lets group together for customers who joined before october 2012 and for which the RPI increase is above 3.2 % and weren't notified!
