Can't fault FD - I filled in form from here - loan was quite old. Heard back straight away and was told it would be about six weeks for them to look into it. Before that received letter with fantastic offer - I was very pleased. Like you I had originally been told I had to have insurance to get loan. Nothing but praise for their quick & speedy response and payment. You wont lose anything by contacting them and may gain a lot.
  • thanks @cbexec was it quite recently

Had 6 loans with First Direct going back to the early 1990's. Delayed quite a while as the bank has always been excellent and didn't want to 'rock the boat' but eventually rang them for details of the loans as we had thrown them out! Just rang the normal number, got put straight through to PPI claims who went through each loan and if it had PPI.Was told 4 had PPI, sent a letter with the details they gave me and within 6 weeks received a cheque for over £16 000.Without doubt the easiest claim I have been involved with. Good luck
  • i know what you mean about rocking the boat, i sent the forms of on monday and will be interesting to see what happens. I used some templates for the letters and was worried as they seem quite harshly worded.

but will see what happens... I sent them photocopies of my paperwork so will see..

i will keep you all posted...

I didn't have any of the details for my loans - FD did all the work but I am still with them and have been for many years so maybe that's why it was pretty easy for me.

I am the same, dont have old paperwork, but have just sent off a letter of complaint on the off chance. Were you successful?

  • Hi all. years back myself and hubby had a bank account, credit card and loan with first direct. All went well at first and then our income started to drop, had a baby n then things became a struggle. first direct then started really hammering us with massive charges then charges on unpaid charges it got awful. In 2006 we got a debt consolidation loan with Picture to pay of first direct. Once it was all sorted we had kept the bank account with first direct and yet the fees and charges continued, we then started to challenge FD over all these charges as it had just came out about unfair bank charges so we decided to claim. In the june of 2006 we were away for the weekend around 3 hours drive from home. Had a very basic weekend running on fumes we headed to the cash point to lift I think our last 60 quid. Cards were swallowed up...totally distraught my MIL managed to transfer 50 over into my Lloyds account that I never really used we managed to get home. Few days later got a letter saying accounts were all frozen and closed. Never thought about it again till now. I have a few claims on the PPI gone out now on Picture, capital one, egg, mbna and black horse finance maybe a few more. N then it comes down to first direct. Were do I stand or even were to begin. Can I still claim for my bank charges????, loan PPI fees, credit card. It just seems a big hill to climb. I feel they just slapped on fine after fine n left us in a right old mess. I remember one charge in particular was for £80 for a few quid over overdraft. we paid it...but it just spiralled out of control. I have the account details etc but is it really worth going after them. Would I be laughed at as they froze and cancelled our account. I feel tbh they didn't help in our blackhole. we could have kept on top but the fees and charges just ate away all our money at the time. What does everyone else think??? xxx

There's nothing stopping you complaining about the PPI form the loan. As for thr bank charges, search MSE and see what you can find, but i think you've missed the boat for that. This is the dame time you took a loan with Picture wasn't it? Did you complain about that one?

  • We took the Picture loan out for £15g in the april of 2006 to pay off the First Direct. Since realised that the Picture loan had £2992 of PPI added something like £7800 with the total insurance added, yup we knew but they told us it was needed for the loan, they also only put it against hubbys name, and even though the loan was for 10 years it seems that it was only a 5year cover. I do believe genuinely that they duped us into it. I remember being called and they asked me to go onto the loan but not the insurance policy so I agreed as they said it and taking the PPI would ensure we got approved. I wasn't working at the time as I was on mat leave if im right I had just been laid off during this month due to the company closing down. We were desperate so did as they said. I think the FD loan was around £12g paid off no details on the PPI or loan agreement on that. We did have the credit card, overdraft also. They were fine with us until we asked to claim back the unfair bank charges and then closed us down. Never thought about it until now. It was only after I lost a lot of paperwork due to water damage that I decided to take on the picture loan and then more and more of my old finances. EGG, MBNA, Black horse, MONUMENT. All around the same time taking out and all if im honest told fibs about this PPI/Insurance. I bet they told everyone the same thing. They knew ppl were maybe desperate and took advantage. And silly us did just that. God they seen us coming. Hubby would have got sick pay due to his rail job at the time ,would have had some sort of insurance on his life then. Hes at another rail company now. same thing. Life insurance etc.

Make a complaint for each thing you had with PPI to start with and if you need more help, come back and ask.

Can you put some double breaks in your posts as well please, because one big block of text is hard to read.

  • OOPS sorry I just ramble on n on n then hit enter hehe x

Been put onto deloitte for the Picture loan they are dealing just waitin on a decision. I have contacted the ombudsman about everything else. They have said got to wait 8 weeks for a response and then they will tackle it.

Had a few replys from EGG, MONUMENT. Capital One have ignored and MBNA well they are a mystery to get hold of.

First direct hmmmm wasn't sure how to go about that. I guess I shall try and contact them first and see were we go.

Picture one a puzzler if I can ask you.
£15g loan, then £2992 PPI with added interest it was for about £7800 or so.

For over 5 years, even though the loan was for 10...

Monthly DD was written as to be £215.16 pr mth depending on interest rates. we never missed a payment but I do remember it being over £300 some months. 21 Months after having the loan we paid it off. for about £16400. They say we got a refund of about £440 back.. iv no clue as I don't see it on my online bank statements.

Do you think there will be much refund due to us, as I do believe we were had by it. They also never told us we could have gone elsewere for insurance, if it was so needed in the first place. I just find it all quite shady wen I think back on it
